Hey guys been lurking here for awhile but anyways yesterday i went to check out a 07 Infinti G35s sedan posted on CL for $14500 obo with 64k miles. The car was in descent shape turns out it was sum young kid saying that the car was a gift so when it came down to buy the car the kid didnt have the pink slip just a receipt from the dealer saying the car was paid off as it still had dealer plates also.So i almost bought the car for 13500 but thank god i didnt cause i called the dealer and they said the car wasnt paid off.So this guy was a scammer car proably was stolen so beware of CL deals..

Never buy a car unless the person you're buying it off has a title and the title is under his/her name. That's the first step when you're looking to buy a car used.

Isn't it almost common sense not to buy a car off of CL? 90% of car sales on CL are scams in one way or another.

No, it isn't i actually find craigslist very a reliable source to sell things and make me money. Its not hard to look at the title and see whos name is on it. Its that simple.

It depends on the dealer. I got a very good price for my car- 2007 G35x for 21k miles with Wood, Premium, Navigation, and Tech Package for $28.5k bought in May 2009. The car was only two years old. The only thing that was missing was the sport package for this car, which I didn't really care about. The car would've been $42-43k brand new. The car never has been in any accident, and I was still covered by the 4 year 60k miles bumper to bumper warranty as well as the powertrain warranty.

Not all dealerships are that bad.

IDK, maybe this is a regional thing or something, because from my numerous (both buying and selling) experiences, CL is an excellent way to buy or sell cars I F you know what you are doing. There are literally thousands and thousands of cars for sale on CL, and they ARE NOT all scams. Sure, there are unscrupulous sellers out there, but no where near your 90% estimate. Lots and lots of perfectly honest people sell cars on CL. You just have to know what you're looking at and know what info to take with a grain of salt. I generally avoid buying used cars from dealerships, and ABSOLUTELY avoid those small independent used car lots, because at the end f the day, they all either don't know or outright lie about the car's prior use/history; THAT'S where I estimate the 90% number applies. When I can meet the original owner of a car personally and ask them questions, I can better assess the likelihood of the car being a dud or not. There is just so much more info available this way, whereas all that resource is stripped away when it sits on a lot and is represented by a salesperson who's never driven the car in their life. I guess a quick wax job, a vacuuming, some tire-black, a prominent parking spot on a lot, and the plastic grin from a friendly professional salesperson seems enough to wash away a lifetime of sins in the eyes of 90% of car buyer out there.

Count me out of that; I prefer to take my chances with someone who's not a trained, professional liar.

I've sold two cars on Craigslist and it couldn't have been easier. If you're smart it's the way to go.

I sold my 05 LS430 on CL without my title in hand. Dude was a bit skeptical, but he had a shop inspect the car, shop said it was a nice buy. We met at Chase and transfer over the funds to my account, He took the car home and I just called him up later when I received my title. He just told me to mail it over to his PO BOX.
Good things can come out of CL. Just gotta know how to cipher the good from the bad. Use common sense.

I have tried to buy some cars, or gauge some interest on some cars. The ones that reply...
"I'm currently stationed in (some other country) but transfer the fund and I can send the car over to you."

or
"I'm going to be deploying soon and need to sell my vehicle.. etc..etc..."

gotta watch out for those. they use the services name in a bad way. making an average person vulnerable to these scams. just cause they used they were are in service, soft people automatically think... oh this guy is nice. let me send him money..

Well i did do sum research on the car did the Autocheck, turns out is was a 08 and had been branded with unibody damage sold at a auction but not salvaged.I called the dealer that sold the car and they said the car was not paid off weird though how the kid had all the receipts saying paid off.So i suggest just do some research before u buy on CL.Still would of been a good deal though a 08 type-s for bout 15000 once registered, with low mileage but who knows it was too good to be true lol..
