Rear coilover installation question?

For people with aftermarket coilover (with adjustable damping), do you need to cut anything for the rear coilover installation?

No it is just plug and play.

You will see a hole underneath to insert the extension to adjust the dampening it is by the back seatbelt.

You have to drill a hole on top of the rear shock towers. I can post a pic of it later if you're interested.

It needs to be done for the V36 sedan, there's no other way around it, sadly.

My Megans have a **** on the upper side of the rear coilovers, just jack up the wheel enough to get your hand up into the wheelwell and you can get to it.

This DIY has some good pics and post 7 shows the hole drilled for the rear strut.

Here you go. Depending on your configuration, you can probably get away with a smaller hole like in the DIY.

On the BCs, the ***** themselves pretty much touch the area you'll be drilling out. The extender adds another inch to that, thus why you see a bigger hole on mine (1.125" hole.)

Thanks, that helps a lot.

So with or without the extender, you would haev to remove the seats for adjustment?

You're welcome.

It depends.

If you have the **** at the top of the shock, and have no hole in the cabin, you have to remove the shock to adjust it.

If you have the **** at the top and have managed to drill the hole big enough, technically you can squeeze your hands behind the seats and reach in to make the adjustment. It's *very* tight though, and if your drilled hole is not smoothed out, you can cut yourself.

If you have the **** on the side of the shock body, you have to lift the rear, remove the wheels and reach in to make the adjustment. But at least you don't have to remove the shock itself.

Hopefully someday, someone will manufacture reversed dampers for us, where the adjustment **** is at the bottom.

Here's the Megan setup, if you look up at the top of the rear shock tower you'll see a silver ****. Like I mentioned, I can get to mine by just raising the rear tires and slip my hand up the wheelwell, takes about 5 minutes to adjust each side, and I've got 295 rear tires that sit flush so if I can get my grubby hands in there you could too
