manual trans and differential oil

I have about 50k on my 6mt. The dealership recommended I change both the transmission oil and the rear differential oil. The owner's service manual I have recommends both of those oils to be changed at 60k. My brother who is a mechanic, but not an Infiniti specialist, says that the service manuals make recommendations conservatively and the dealership makes recommendations extremely conservatively.

few questions for you all:

1. Have you had either or both the manual trans and rear diff oils changed on your car? If so, at what mileage?

2. What kind of oil was used for each? how much did you pay for the oil? for service?

One more question, not related to the OT:

How can I adjust the parking brake myself? Anyone have a write up for it?

thanks in advance!

1) Yes, I regularly (DIY) both at 30K mile intervals. Will your car continue to run if you don't change them by 60K? Sure it will, but it really isn't excessive for you to be changing them at 50K either; especially if you were not the original owner.

2) Originally, I used a Redline Synthetic for the tranny, but from now on, I think I will go with either the factory recommended Nissan lube or possibly MotorCraft Full Synthetic Manual Tranny Lube next time (https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubrican...ission%20Fluid)
For the diff, I just use the appropriate weight of StaLube GL-5 gear oil product.

3) I've never had to adjust the parking brake, but I'm sure it's not too difficult to DIY. Just so you know, by registering here: (http://x.infinitihelp.com/forum/local_links.php?catid=7) you can download the factory service manual for free. It used to be one complete downlaod, but it's now broken up into multiple sections.

^ ditto, for adjusting the parking brake the easier way is to pop off the little coin holder next to the cup holder and you will see a nut that you can adjust accordingly to tighten the parking wire

I got my tran and diff oil changed at 48k, and used whatever the Nissan dealer used

I would change them and stick to OEM fluids.

How much did they charge?

I have yet to call up my local Nissan dealer for a quote since at almost 100,000 km (62k miles) and the transmission isn't too smooth/quick engaging Reverse or Drive sometimes (smooth and quicker when warmed up), pretty sure i'll need one.

Yet i know the local Infiniti dealer charges $255.50 CDN for Transmission "Service" and $109.99 CDN for Rear Diff "Service" And another Infiniti dealer is offering $50 off coupons for services more than $250.

I *think* I paid $170 + tax for both tran and diff oil at my local Nissan dealer. And I *think* my local Infiniti dealer was asking $260-280 + tax for both.
