For those of you as OCD / slightly insane as I am - who are driven nuts by the asymmetry of the single white led in the upper console - you'll be glad to hear that when Infiniti removed the driver's side LED, they left the body-side wiring for the 2nd led intact, making the 2007 console fully plug-n-play.

FWIW, the headliner does have to come down for this. It''s pretty easy, just follow the DIY for fixing a stuck sunroof.

Also fwiw, the purple LEDs on the bottom of my lower console aren't anywhere near that bright in reality - my phone camera overexposed.

I think this is the first time i've ever put a previous model year part in one of my cars...normally they improve with age, and the newer parts go in!

 

So, besides spending more money, that white led light does nothing for your car. It's so dim that it doesn't make your console any brighter or make the ambient light any brighter.

Yes, it may be dim, but it doubles the light. It makes the console, and the ambient light, twice as bright.

Also, the $50 for a used part didn't really kill the bank account

 

Nice job! i feel you on the asymmetry thing too... If you have the interior lights turned up to max brightness those ambient lights are bright enough to serve their purpose on dark roads and lots

Glad to hear the headliner isn't a bad job--I've got to pull mine down to find the source of a very annoying rattle. Hoping it is just a loose screw.

^ Oh true, but certain mods do have some more utility and aesthetics compared to others. $50 for a used part to just have an extra small LED on top of your console isn't worth it, IMO. If others want to do it, that's fine. But, IMO, that $50 can be used to do other things. (Because there's already a white LED light for ambience in the 08 models, adding an extra small one isn't worth it.)

I would rather spend that $50 towards a mirror that has the compass built in, which was only present in the 2007 with navigation/tech packages. The mirror with the compass has much more utility than an extra small LED light, and is certainly easier to use than using the navigation to pinpoint your direction. There's a reason why Infiniti redesigned that console with just one LED light in later model years. Maybe the dual LED has problems?

The OP's picture doesn't have the compass in the mirror, even though he has navigation in his vehicle.

 

Theres no problem with dual leds, its a good mod that many have commented on missing on 08+ for whatever reason and knowing that its an easy/cheap swap will help many people who want the same and the op likes it, to each their own so just let it be

 

I've got no problem with it, which is why my post had IMO in it...I'm just saying that IMO, other mods might be more useful and more cost efficient. I even wrote "if other people want to do it, that's fine." I'm just giving my opinion.

My whole point in posting wasn't to solicit opinion - it was to get it in the archives so that when someone else - who is also driven crazy by the single led - can find this post, and know that its cheap, easy, and doable

Wow....out of all the things on my car I never realized they only put 1 in the 2008 and the mirror didn't have a compass on it. Why? Would it really have broken the bank for Infiniti to do this? lol I have both compass and lights =D, except the 08 has ipod integration on the screen which I don't have and is much more expensive/ useful to me than a compus and light combined =/

 

I did my own "mod" of that light in the upper counsel the night I bought my 2008 on the way home from the dealer. I was like "what is this annoying light" and I tried every button in the car to try to get it to turn off, and after failing to get it to extinguish, I just took a small piece of paper and jammed it into the hole where the light comes out. Now I don't have that annoying light on any more.
