Arrow Paddle Shifter Questions?

Installed OEM Paddle Shifters on my 07 G35X yesterday and the car seems to shift gears faster and more aggressively with the paddles than when using the Gearshift Selector to change gears in Manual Mode. Does anyone know if this is actually happening or is this just the 16 year old boy in my head being overly excited about having paddle shifters for the first time?

Who else out there has added paddle shifters to their 2nd gen G and what are your experiences?

I think it has something to do with the much shorter throw of the paddles vs the stick. it takes less time to engage the paddles than it does the stick but the shifting time is the same. So basically from decision to shift to the shift engaging is slightly faster with the paddles simply because its faster to hit the paddle. We are talking fractions of a second here.

Good point, I didn't think about that.

For me, I feel like the paddle shifters take a little longer to shift. I feel like the response is bad because the paddles are wired into the Shifter. I may be wrong but thats how i think and feel it works.. Questionable.

Controversial as it may be, I added an SxExCx Grounding Wire Kit, which "I feel" improved the Triptronic shifting, in anticipation of adding my paddle shifters in the new future to make sure I got the best shifting I could.

If you havent ordered the parts already, I found my set on ebay for $240, way better compared to the $380 quote I got from somewhere on this forum/quote request from the dealer. Ebay FTW.

by the way do you feel that the grounding kit actually makes a difference? im looking at the Black Betty grounding kit as my next mod

I have them sitting here already. Just need to borrow someone with a steering wheel puller and a little experience in pulling up the center console (I think). I bought a big pile of stuff off a friend when he parted out and those where in the stash.

I absolutely feel the grounding kit had two noticeable affects. The first, and this is impossible to debate, is that my idle speed dropped from around 850-900rpm to an absolutely rock solid 500rpm.

The second, which is very subjective, is that when manually shifting, I feel the shift lag time was reduced by a noticeable amount. I cannot speak to the Stillen or Black Betty kits as I don't know if they have the same grounding points as the SxExCx so I can only recommend Sean's kit since I have first hand experience with it (although I live close enough I had Sean himself install it).

Other people talk about their stereo being louder, headlights being brighter, faster throttle response, better gas mileage, etc. I did not notice any of those things, only the two I mentioned.

Would you happen to have the eBay sellers info for the kit you purchased?

Stop waiting, throw those bad boys on today, its actually possible to add the shifters without taking off the steering wheel, just by craftily removing the trip pieces while turning the wheel left to right to gain access. Check this thread for more info, the method of installing without removing the wheel is on page 20 at the top, worked for me and only took about 40 minutes. Dont be intimidated by the trim pieces, they come off pretty easy. Its like Lego's for adults.

As for the Grounding kit, they pretty much all do the same thing with the only really differences being the Gauge of the wires used so im not really sure what effect the different brand name has on the product if any. Anyways, cheers to a under $100 mod that actually has a tangible effect on performance.

Should note that only the Grey Stone kit is available at this price. I kind of like having my steering wheel trim be dual tone, (top black, bottom dark grey) as for the leather accents on the paddles themselves, they are so close in tone to the black ones I did not think it merited a $100+ premium over the grey kit. If the grey trim really bothers you, just pick up new pieces online for super cheap, Havent had to buy them so I dont know where you would find them, but with a little searching it cant be too hard to find.
