Long crank / hard start issue 07

Just got my G a few weeks ago, love the car to death. But about every other time i start it, it cranks for like 2 seconds... doesn't sound like much but i'm sure you guys know what i mean. It just cranks for a while before it catches.. Runs fine otherwise. Filters are all changed, i put good gas in it, if i turn the ignition on for a while first, or the car had been running, it seems to do it less... Things i should worry about? I'm just used to most cars catching on the second turn of the motor or so

Have the battery checked out at your local auto parts store. Most check for free

battery is fine... it's not cranking slow... it's just not picking up... seems like more of a fuel or intake issue

im not sure on the G, but the sentra have this problem. possibly the fuel pressure regulator not holding pressure. key on, fuel pump runs and brings pressure back up, then makes starting easier.

Had an issue like that on my Maxima VQ35DE. Turned out to be the camshaft position sensor. Every case is different and very hard to diagnose. Hope you find out what it is.

^^ I've seen similar to this in other (non-Nissan) makes, except it was the crank position sensor. Apparently, many auto makers set their cars up to activate the fuel pump and/or fire the injectors ONLY in the presence of a valid crank rotation signal. I think I read that this is partially a failsafe so that, in case of an accident, the fuel doesn't continue running under pressure. But, in this type of scenario, if the crank signal is glitching on the first few rotations, then the fuel will be delayed until it reads properly, and thereby results in a long cranking cycle before the engine starts.

Is this a bone stock car? What engine repairs have you had if any? How many miles and has it had all the maintenance done on it? How old is the battery? Details man, details!

I just bought the car. Didn't seem to do it when i was test driving it, but who knows. It starts every time, just cranks longer than i think it should. About once every 3 or 4 starts it works like it should, starts right up, no issues, but usually has a raised idle for about 20 seconds after a good start

the car has 55k on it, no mods, haven't done anything to the car but it has fresh oil, and all filters are new.

it's an 07 x with an auto trans... seems to run great besides that, gas mileage is kinda shitty, but that's coming from a smaller cars and i think all of these cars get pretty poor mileage...

I'm probably going to end up doing some intake cleaner crap and a tune up here in a bit, though, with the way plugs and cars are these days, i wouldn't have expected that i would need to do this on a car with these miles.

Bump

i ran intake cleaner through it, and it hasn't really changed it.

any ideas? dont these cars usually have issues with cam sensors or something?

I would not say that at all. As mentioned previously, there is a whole host of issues that could be causing it. I had hard starting on my old maxima too and changed the cam positions sensor--did nothing. Ended up being ground the starter case.

Since battery is such an issue with these cars, I would definitely check again. How old is the battery. If more than 3 years old, I would definitely swap it out. I usually do not recommend swapping out parts that *could* be causing the problem but the battery needs to be strong to start modern cars well. My dad's RX300 recently had started taking a long time to cranking to start. His battery was 3 1/2 years old and I recommend he change it. Sure enough, starts up quick now.

Also you may want to check all the temp sensors, tqhis will cause slow starts too

Anyone else have this issue? I have a new battery and everything else is fine. I've read about some people replacing the start button. But I'm not sure if that would cause this.

I guess fx owners have the same issue and have replaced the "ac amplifier"?

Did you figure out what it was? My car has been doing the same thing, hasn't gotten better or worse.

I checked battery, starter, plugs, terminals, fresh gas... everything I could do "easily".
