2007 g35

Hey Guys, I am in the market for a 2007 G35. It has 117k miles and seems to run good with no jerking on the transmission or anything but I want your advice since you guys are experienced. I am in love with the car but I am afraid of the transmission. I have heard some bad stories of these transmissions going bad and I just wanted to hear from you guys if these transmissions are actually reliable especially at that mileage. It is a 2 owner vehicle with no accidents. TIA

I thought the 5AT is still decently reliable compared tot he 7AT on G37

If it check edout ok, I say go for it and replace the transmission fluid, and enjoy the car.

Actually the 5 & 7 speeds are both very reliable, the 7AT just has a few more quirks w/ a bit of lag and hesitant shift points, most have been addressed w/ reflash updates but still not as decisive as the 5AT.

See if they've documented any transmission fluid flush &/or drain & fills throughout its' service history. The dealer should have this info. If I remember correctly the 5AT should be serviced every 60kmiles.

The carfax actually shows that a transmission flush has been done at 80k miles.

That's good to know, at least you know that's been addressed

So far the transmission on these cars are great. I heard if you put the transgo kit in there it increase the life of your transmission. It shifts a lot quicker and less slippage. But you really don't need that.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
OP you're overthinking this. Take care of the car and it will take care of you, for the most part our transmissions and engines are bulletproof and should last you upwards of 200K miles.

Usually, with a car with a high mileage like that, you should probably bring a mechanic friend with you to check everything out. Some drivers do really abuse their cars and you may never know what to look for. There may be leaks that can't be detected by the average eye.

I recommend you bring a qualified mechanic with you to check out the car and make sure there are no issues. Check to see if the oil looks good, no residue in each of the reservoir tanks, and all fluids are at the proper levels. One sign of the car leaking somewhere is if the fluid level in low.

I wouldn't trust any car history report that states there were no accidents on the vehicle. When I bought my used car at 21k miles, there was definitely damage done to the body that was repainted and fixed and I never caught it until I brought it to the body shop later for some body work 4 and a half years later. Frankly, I'm very surprised that for a two owner vehicle, with 117k miles and six years of service, there was not an accident at all, not even scratches in the bumper from parallel parking?

Thanks for the replies guys. Body looks very good as well. A small scratch on the front bumper but not very noticeable. As far as options go, it's a base model. No NAV or back up camera. The dealer is asking $11,500 out the door with tax, dealer fees, etc for it. I think that its a pretty good deal. What do you guys think?

Doesn't sound bad, but I'm wondering what the kbb value is? If it is too low then it may be because it has been involved in an accident before and they're hiding the damages.
