G35 rack and pinion

So I have an 08 g35 and my rack and pinion needs to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone knew if the g37 sedans had the same rack and pinions (or the first generation sedans).

And as far as replacing a rack and pinion, any advice/guides? Or tips?

Thanks

Same issue for me 2x. My g needs a new one, got all sloppy and I tightened it up with slide force nut on rack. Got loose again. Now my FX 50 got loose. Got under it and my rack is leaking. My FX is under warranty and the rack is getting replaced, but the G has 120k so all out of pocket.

How does the steering feel when the rack and pinion needs to be changed? I'm curious because my steering gets tough and stuck to turn at times it's an on and off thing

You will hear a clunk noise when you are turning your steering wheel all the way to the left or right. I had this replaced under warranty.

While driving or at a standstill? At a standstill, it is more of a function of the ground beneath you and the tires. Definitely shouldn't happen while driving.

That said, it seems a lot of rack issues with this car. Some have reported leaking. Mine made popping sounds while turning at standstill and was replaced under warranty.

For me, it was easily replicated at parking lot speeds when you are backing out of a spot and turning the wheel.

I couldn't hear the clunk as much at a standstill, and the dealer confirmed it was leaking. It is easy to tell because all you have to do is look at your power steering fluid reservoir and see if the levels are changing. When mine was leaking the fluid was below the low fluid line.

That's normal, especially when you're just starting the vehicle in the cold. My steering wheel is difficult to turn at first, but then relaxes later. Let everything warm up.

How hard is this to fix? I really don't want to pay $1300 to have someone else fix it.

I'm also curious on how much this costs to fix. I notice a clunk noise when my steering wheel is turned all the way to the right and moving at a slow speed. What other symptoms are there to know for sure that this is a rack and pinion issue?

I was just told I had this issue on my 07 with 53000 miles. Quoted about $1500 for the repair but covered under extended warranty. Yes!!!

First symptom was the clunking noise at the extended range of turning radius. It was easy to replicate by turning 80% of the way while either at a stand still or slow driving. The clunk is the boot slipping up and down and mine has fluid in it.

So i still haven't fixed my issue. but...

It might not be the rack and pinion. i haven't gone under the car but plan on soon. it looks like the problem is just an inner tie rod. Should be an easy fix.

But i wont know until car is up.

And for those asking whats wrong; there is a clicking sound when turning the wheel. this happens when the car is stopped and when its doing slow turns.

The weird thing is sometimes in the morning when its a cold humidified day there is no issue until you start driving and it gets warmer out.
