Looking to buy a 2008 Infiniti G35x
The stock oil pressure sensor is just a simple switch that triggers the idiot light ONLY when the pressure is so low that engine damage is practically imminent. You don't want to wait until then. As an example, my car had just 5 psi at idle but it still never triggered the idiot light. Given that you are boosted at all, you especially should be concerned, as you are definitely putting more strain on your engine, even if it's not putting down a 500 whp.
BTW, whoever said that to you was talking out their a$$. There is no magic about a particular whp number. Monitoring OP is useful even when stock, and practically mandatory when boosted. If you ask me, you should be monitoring oil temps as well. I cannot imagine any reputable marketers of FI engine performance products would ever deem the monitoring of the engine's oil status as unnecessary.

(perhaps you misunderstood them?)
I wanted the monitor all that into mirror and I told him what I had and was it necessary for me to have it. The guy told me unless you are putting 500Rwhp it's not needed. My tune is pretty safe and it's not aggressive. The only thing I monitor is my wide band and PSI. I don't really go over 4 PSI. Most of the time I am not in boost. Maybe about a couple times a week but I am always in 3psi. I don't run my car hard.
