Ruined my left TB, shop wants $950 to replace

This past weekend I cleaned my TBs and made the poor decision to move the butterfly valves a little bit to reach some of the dirt in there, never unplugging them from the wiring harness although I did disconnect the negative terminal. After everything was clean and reassembled I got the fluctuating rmp issue near idle where it jumps from 1200 to 2000 rmps every second or so. I went through and did the relearning and reset processes multiple times, on the order of 20 time, and finally took it to the shop this morning. They said the left TB was toast and needed to be replaced. They quoted me $950 dollars for parts and labor. I found the TB on everything35.com for about $250. I would like to buy it and put the part in myself and see if they will re program it if the relearning is not enough.

My question is will I need to replace both TB just so they are in the same condition? How are the quality of the parts from everythingg35.com and are they truly OEM parts? And if you were in my position what would you do?

I've spent hours finding information on this issue already and it seems like a replacement will be needed unless there is something I missed. I'm fresh out of college and just started my new job a few months ago. I could afford the shop repair but could defiantly use the money else where. Thanks for any help in advance. Anyone looking to clean you TBs don't move the butterfly valve!!!

I'm cautious about buying used just in case there is an issue with the TB and there wont be anyone to answer for it.

As for the NWP TBs I didn't think they made a set for a 2007 g35x sedan with the HR motor. Plus it may be a bit out of my budget having to buy 2 of them.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Have you tried the throttle body recalibration method? Worked for me when I hit the butterfly. Also, everythingg35.com is completely legit and their parts are OEM parts. They are actually a dealer warehouse I believe and their service/shipping is great.

Yeah I tried that. The shop said the left (driver side) TB is done for. I'm going to order a new one from everythingg35 tonight, put it in myself and if need be, have my shop reset them.

Thanks for the feed back guys.

I am about to buy this part form this website. everythingg35.com is selling them for $560. Any idea why this webpage is so much cheaper? I was in a live chat and was told it was a OE part. Is it a bad idea to buy this?

I have encountered this problem a few times. Go to the dealer and check if there are any ecu updates available. If there are, have the update performed, usually this fixes the jumping idle on the 07 08 models.

Woah!! Wait up.

Before you spend any money replacing parts, make sure the dealer isn't just being stupid (it happens!).

Look up the service bulletin in this post: https://g35driver.com/forums/6729155-post516.html
and make sure they have tried that. Apparently, some of these cars have some kind of a glitch where they have to force a fault, then clear it, then retry the learn procedure before it will complete successfully.
