Akebono stuff
So I m looking to upgrade my brakes relatively soon. Probably around Christmas.
I drive an 08 sedan AWD
One option is to pick up the calipers used with pads and get the rotors froma vendor. My question is that will I need any other hardware such as bolts? I know I don't need brackets.
My other option is to buy a complete set from a vendor. Which I assume will have everything I need. And its a matter of trying to find who will give me the lowest price... any recommendations?

I did all of the above on my 08x! Picked up the calipers used, and stripped/repainted them.
Get aftermarket pads. You don't want used pads on new rotors.
You won't need other hardware. Its a very straightforward day.
KNS brakes has the best combo right now. Iirc I paid about 800 for DBA 4000 rotors, hawk hps pads, ate super blue and stop tech stainless lines.

aight so i managed to snag the brakes i ordered some stoptech slotted rotors too.
the brakes came with used OEM pads and look as if they still have some meat left. should i change em anyway? or just run the OEM pads?

If you're running new rotors I'd just pony up the $100 for new pads, I've been very happy w/ Stoptech pads. Rockauto.com & Amazon have nice prices on them.

I went with proact bc it was my dd. others will prob say hawk for the bite but I personally don't think it's necessary. Quietness and dusting were my priorities and I'm happy with my decision.
I also changed my brake fluid to ATE blue. Motul is fine as well esp for no track use. I bought 1 liter and still had fluid left.
Have u looked into ss lines yet?

Sounds good I ll look into those pads. I haven't looked into ss lines yet since I still got some time before these go on.
Does anyone know if 19x9.5 +35 volk gts will clear akebonos? Sorry I don't know the disks -.-
They cleared brembos when they were on an evo lol

For the daily driver Hawk Ceramics are good, another cheap option is Centric Posi Quiet Ceramic pads, they are about half the price and are very similar to both the Hawk Ceramics and the ProActs.
SS lines, Goodridge is a great quality product but a little more expensive than the StopTech SS lines.
Motul RBF is a bit overkill for a DD, just get ATE superblue or ATE typ200 and call it a day.

lol also whas the main reason most people upgrade to SS lines? looks? performance?
I used the Centric Posi Quiets on the BBK of my G and on my Lexus and highly recommend them for daily driving.
As for the fluid, it depends on whether or not you plan to heat up the brakes enough to possibly boil your brake fluid. It's not as critical for a daily driver.
The SS lines will give the brakes a noticeably firmer feel and also make them easier to modulate. Not really for looks because they are kinda hidden anyways.
