Locking doors before they are closed

One feature I'm used to on other cars I've driven (and even later model G35s if I recall) is that you can lock the doors even though one or more of the doors is still open (ie, someone is still getting out of the car). Since my kids tend to "take their time" getting out of the car I like to be able to lock the doors so that I don't have to remember once they finally get out and close their door. Is this even possible on our cars? I've been able to lock the doors with the trunk open but not when a door is open. I've tried with the key fob as well as with the button on the outside door handle. If anyone has figured out a way to make this work, I'd appreciate it!

Use the lock button inside the car. It works doing it that way.
