So my previous g35 grille has loads of rockchips which exposes the black plastic material under the plastic chrome. I just bought a replacement, I was wondering if I can spray few layers of clearcoat onto it to help it against rock chips. Is that a good idea?

 

I don't see how it could hurt. The grill is super easy to chip. Not sure if the replacements are any better.

I'd think a clear bra type material would be too hard to apply.

 

so how do u guys usually protect it against chips then? I don't want to plasti dip it or nothing.

 

Mine was already pretty badly chipped when I bought the car. Didn't seem like there was a point to doing anything.

 

3m makes a spray on clear bra system that I would think is just cleat plasticoat. Plain clear coat will flake off and won't do anything against rock chips in the first place.

 

i wouldn't bother with it any thing you spray on it will flake off or give you some sort of chipping at some point, i would just enjoy the nice look of a new grill while it lasts. but if you are going to coat it in any way use the 3m spray it will work longer than any other product will
