MPG concern, should I be worried?

Haven't really posted here since I had my g35 coupe but sold that and got a 07 g35x sedan. So I've been driving my black obs 07 g35x (45k miles) for a few months now and my MPG is terrible... I'm getting about 13mpg and like 220-230 till empty after I just filled up. Some things to take into account is I practically drive All CITY miles here in brooklyn, NY a lot of stop and go but still should I be getting his low mpg? I'm thinking about changing my air intake filters they look a little old but hmm should be I content with 13mpg? I don't drive like a crazy person but I don't drive like a grandma either, I'm a normal g driver I'd say. Any input or advice is appreciated thanks

I think that's about right for awd. I probably only get about 16 city. Luckily 90% of my driving is hwy, and i get about 24 mixed, but I know that little bit of city really hurts my avg. It takes a lot to launch our big fat cars.

How old are your plugs/air filter? What's your oil weight? May be able to pick up 2-3 mpg with a few upgrades/changes.

I get around 15-17 city and 22-26 hwy. I can imagine traffic in Brooklyn, so 13mpg doesn't seem too out of the ordinary.

I'm planning on changing the air filters to 2 k&n filters cause mine look a little old, haven't checked the plugs and don't know when they were last changed , is there a way to check? I'm gonna change the oil and I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30. I kinda figured id be getting crappy mpg but just thought I might be able to get in the 15-16s even if it's all city. Thanks for the input I guess I'll change my air filters for now and see if it helps

at 45k it's unlikely your plugs have been changed, but they're platinum so they shouldn't have to be changed until 100k. It likely is just an effect of Brooklyn Traffic.

Fill the tank and go for a drive using the cruise control that will tell you what kinda mileage you're really getting! Stop & Go N.Y. traffic can't be a good judge of MPG. Filters will help, running a quality 5/W30 synthetic oil should help too and don't forget to run just over the recommended tire pressure...I'm at 37 psi.

What octane of gas? There can be a couple mpg difference between running 87 vs 91 octane.

I get 17mpg on pure city driving.. and that too it is very suburban driving(low traffic) and very unlike NY-style grids. It is likely just the traffic you experience. Try driving like a granny, anticipating red lights to minimize acceleration, etc.

Well you get 0 mpg when you're sitting still.....

Don't waste money on K&N. That won't help mpg any more than a new paper filter.

Oil change won't make a noticeable difference either.

Plugs are unlikely to be bad that that low mileage.

An oil change may make no difference, but changing your oil (as in switching weights) will. I used to use 20/50 conventional and now use 5/30 synthetic blend and there's a noticeable difference in mileage.

And does his car have platinum or iridium plugs? (I don't know if the sedan switched to iridium in 05 like the coupe). If platinum, they are due for a change.

I thought they were iridium, which lasts even longer than platinum.
