Seat memory buttons...what am I missing

I've never been able to get the seat memory buttons to work in my '07 G35S sedan.

They light up, and appear to 'work' just fine.

I have adjusted my seat, and I believe I programmed a button correctly.
Then I move the seat around randomly, and try to invoke the saved settings. Nothing happens. I press the damn button all kinds of ways and nothing happens

Can someone please explain, in idiot-proof logic, how to program a memory button AND activate it??
I want it from you because I've looked up the process and can't manage to do it.

Do you need to have the parking brake set to get the memory button to work?

No, the car just needs to be in park.

I guess I do, then... programming appears to work but no link between buttons and seat motors.

My car doesn't have Park.

Mine won't set the memory if the parking brake is not engaged. I think I found the information on this sight.

Worst case, go test drive one and have the salesman show you how it works.
