2007 G35 need new clutch/tranny job, worth it or new car?

So my 2007 G needs as clutch/tranny job at close to 100k. I'm looking at $3200 best case (clutch/flywheel) plus whatever else they find need replacing. I'm trying to decide if I can justify the cost of repair or if I should just trade it in for something newer. The car is running good other than needing the tranny job but at about 100K, is it gonna start costing me more and more to fix. Engine seems in excellent condition at the moment but for how long.

What I can expect the G to go wrong after 100K? Is it worth spend $3-4K at this stage? Any input would be appreciated.

I recently had my sisters honda transmission (auto 4AT) rebuilt for 2K and it has a lifetime warrantee. Usually when transmissions fail it is because abuse or bad design.

Decided to repair it after all. Couldn't think of another car I want at the moment and couldn't justify spending 40k+ on another car to avoid a 3K repair.

It's clutch/flywheel. Flywheel alone in parts is about a grand. Work is to be done through a local transmission shop I've used in the past. They do good work but def not the cheapest. I'd imagine the dealer would probably want 4-5 grand.

I also have a 2001 honda accord 4AT beater that I've had the transmission rebuilt not too long ago. That was also about $2K. It was a know issue with that generation of Accord.

Find out the trade in value of your G requiring all this work with that kinda mileage! Honestly you're better off having it fixed and driving it for a year or two. Old college prof stated, "There's nothing cheaper than what you're driving today!"

If it's a car that you enjoy and love I would pay for the repairs and continue on.

You got a good deal on the clutch, I bought the Jim Wolf Technology clutch pack and had it installed for about the same. The dealer wanted $2200 just for OEM clutch replacement. You said the trans needs to be rebuilt? Bad syncros? Missing teeth on gears?

This deal is still going: https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...ml#post4024798

NOTE:

It is EXTREMELY important that you have the clutch slave cylinder replaced at the same time, as THEY ARE NOT REUSEABLE!! I recommend you also replace the clutch mater cylinder at the same time as well (and not just because I still have a brand new one for sale here), since a dirty/worn master can contaminate a new slave and cause premature failure.

Do not scrimp on this or you will regret it! The expense ($$$$) of having to go and take the transmission back out to replace the CSC again if/when it fails is just not worth it. Be smart.

You've been warned.

How much would it be for just the clutch alone?

I thought the $2200 clutch replacement for a MINI is already expensive! The G cost about the same to replace the clutch?

Five years ago, the dealer wanted $2200 to do mine. I got the JWT kit for less than 800 and had it installed for 400.

The best price on factory parts that I found was from an online dealership that charged $525 for the clutch and pressure plate. The dual-mass flywheel was another $759. Those both included free shipping, and since I was from out of state there was no tax either. As for the labor in my case, the dealer already had to drop the tranny for a warranty replacement of a CSC that failed prematurely, so I only had to pay for just one hour of labor to have them perform the additional task of swapping out the clutch and fly while they were in there. All totaled, it cost me about $1450 for a complete OEM clutch AND flywheel. The new CSC and a new master cylinder were covered under warranty. (Incidentally, that was how I ended up with an extra master cylinder, since I hadn't expected them to cover the new master and had already bought one.)

I went to ALL Transmission World when my clutch pedal was acting up. I told them the clutch itself isn't slipping, just that the clutch pedal is sticking. Mechanic comes and tells me I should replace the entire clutch.

The wanted $1200... and I was like, F you guys (in my head). I left and went to Midas to get the clutch fluid bled/changed for $80 instead and its been running ok for now.

Yea the dealer WILL RAPE your bank account dry.

I think they wanted like $3k to replace my factory Nav, which is 9 years old. Ridiculous..when you can buy new modern Nav double din systems now for under $1k.

I also had a 2000 Accord Coupe 5spd that I had to change the clutch. That cost $900 in parts labor.

Which isnt bad... However, he did sound lazy when I mentioned the flywheel + other parts like master cylinder etc...

My general questions are... Should I get an after market clutch with a fylwheel??? Or get the OEM clutch?

BTw, mechanic said the stage 2 clutch im looking at will make a lot of noise and the car ride wont be as smooth... Bt who the **** cares if your looking at performance/durability....
$1k sounds good, as long as you trust the mechanic. Stick to OEM if its cheaper. If the price difference is close, then try aftermarket.

I knew a mechanic friend that did work on my older cars back then. He would charge me mad cheap for maintenance, like $600 for a Timing belt service (which easily costs $1k).

DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT replace the clutch WITHOUT replacing the flywheel. You WILL regret it. You MUST start with a clean SMOOTH friction surface or your clutch plate will start to chatter and it will be all over. You have two choices, OEM (or equivalent dual mass flywheel), no chatter or you can get a light weight flywheel that will wake up your motor but will chatter at idle. I have had mine for three years and I don't even hear it now.
