Just a heads up on the "possibility" of these parts going bad on your vehicle

Rack/Pinion
Changed tires earlier this year and my friend found a leak at the boots of the rack/pinion. Took it in and discovered it was faulty. Replaced under warranty (elite extended), would have been over a grand easy with labor.

Starter
From about Wednesday, noticed that the car began to crank slowly while startup. Thought the battery may be bad, and was on the way to a friend's shop when the car wouldn't turn over at all after being parked for a few minutes. All dash lights worked, headlights still bright, battery still metered 12.4V, all signs pointed to the starter. Had roadside service tow the car to the dealer, confirmed the starter was bad, quoted me $55X.XX until I reminded him of my warranty (lol), $100.00 deductible payment due when the car is done.

I'm a firm believer in extended warranties

 

Congrats on getting them covered under the ext. warranty.

It's always nice to know the money spent on the Elite wasn't wasted.

Also had the two head gaskets replaced due to oil leakage, both under warranty. A bunch of other stuff too after the stock warranty expired but I'd have to look the paperwork : )

 

I bought my 05X in august 2013 with 85,650 miles on it. I also got a extended warranty. It has paid for it self. I had both lwr control arms and compression arms done $100! I just got camshaft sensers done $100! The nissan dealer offered the warranty to sell me the car! I was buying it anyway! The G35X was well maintained had all the service records with it. I love my 05X!

The biggest thing I had to replace was my driveshaft. I would have never known it was bad until I was getting a CF one test fitted on my car. Lol. It's a common problem on out cars and a lot of ppl don't know they are bad. I am hoping to use more of my elite so I can get my money worth out if it

 

What went wrong with your driveshaft? . . . center carrier bearing, u-joints, ???

 

It at the point where is connected into the trans

This is kind of frightening. I bought my '08 xS with 70k about 3 months ago. It drives beautifully and was very well maintained, but no extended warranty. Now has 73k miles. What are my options for upgrading? Aftermarket warranty only?

 

No, you have options. You should still be able to get an Infiniti Elite warranty, but the pricing may be pretty steep. I'd call and talk to one of the online Infiniti dealerships that sell them at a discount. They are pretty much the best you can do. You would need to pay for an inspection before they could warranty the car though, which is typical.

After my 7 year/100K Elite warranty ran out on my '07 (due to time), I asked my local dealer about whether further coverage was available and was told YES. The quote for extending it to 8yr/120K was so high, I figured I could basically just pay out of pocket for anything else that came up. YMMV though.

There are mileage and/or time thresholds which can trip the costs significantly, so you really can't tell based on my comment alone (I'm at 85K miles). It is always free to get a quote just to be sure.

 

Right. And one of the thresholds is at 75K, so the inquirer needs to do their research now. March 2013 I got online competitive pricing and took that number to the dealer from whom I bought the car and they matched it. Four years and 48K miles for $2,1xx with $100 deductible ($0 deductible was $700 more and I decided that was where I would gamble that I'd have no more than 7 incidents in the four years). So I'm fully covered through March 2017 and 122k miles. I'm sitting at 86k miles now, I'll run out of time before miles. I've already had more work done under warranty than the warranty cost me. The dealer had full service records on the car so no inspection was required for the warranty. I think it costs $150.
