Hey guys i have an 07 g35x and i need to know if i should be bugging as much as i should right now, i just fish tailed into a curb with my passenger rear wheel and now its kicked out. And now the steering wheel is 1/4 to the right but the car is still driving straight with the wheel that way and my vdc off light is on and the slip light is on and they wont turn off.



What kind of damage could i have done? 😢 is it safe to drive like this for the time being (probably get it fixed this week).

At least not until you get the extent of the damage inspected. You most likely snapped your lateral control rod, allowing the wheel to flop sideways like that. Besides the GLARING SAFETY FACTOR (!!), if you continue to drive it, it could lead to severe damage to other parts of the suspension and drivetrain that may yet be fully salvageable. Don't be stupid about it. This is the kind of situation where things can easily go from bad to worse.

On the bright side, it may be that the damage is all readily fixed with simple bolt on parts and you'll ultimately come out of this without too much expense. Good luck!

I know it's not on a G35X, but the part number is probably the same and its function is identical to your car.

 

Ok so to the shop i will go tomorrow! Why do u think the slip and vdc "off" is staying on? I think i hit the vdc off 5 minutes prior to the incident. So i know that was on when it happened and the slip light was definitely on for sure

 

Have you even looked under the car? I know it's all cold and wet, but a simple look underneath could tell you if you've got absolute carnage under there. You may need to stop driving it completely and have it towed if it's literally got no lateral connection on that control arm assembly.

The complaints from your car's traction control system are not surprising given that the wheel will be "dragging" somewhat compared to the others, as well as the possibility that the suspension damage may have caused some collateral damage to the speed sensor for that wheel. The system's normal operational mode is "ON", so if it detects a fault which renders it inoperable, it will illuminate the "OFF" indication to alert you to the fact that it is no longer protecting you.

Lastly, am I to understand you correctly, in that you had switched off your VDC 5 minutes prior to the accident?? Why on earth would you do that in the snow, unless it was for some hooning? Otherwise, it almost sounds like you possibly misunderstood it's operation and tried to use it completely opposite of it's intended function.

 

I havent looked under it i guess i should do that first huh? I knew its purpose i just wanted to feel what it was like without it on.

 

Been there, done that, with other cars, not good. most likely bent a LOT of stuff under there. Get it fixed and SELL IT.

Yes, you definitely should look underneath.

I'm sorry you had to learn he hard way about proper car control. I think all too often, young people look at the cost of some good high-performance driving lessons/instruction as being too expensive (and instead preferring to "DIY" on the street). I say obtaining an education is always expensive; it's just not always apparent exactly where you'll be making payment for it.

Hope you get your money's worth out of this lesson.

 

You probably destroyed some of the vdc sensors along with bending major suspension parts, including the rear subframe.

Relax, you know you're going to have to take some ribbing for this one.

It's not that it's personal. It's more like, it's just your turn. By that, I mean pretty much everyone with more experience than you has already done, or most likely will do this at some point, so they've had their turn too. It's just a lesson; all you can do is learn it and move on.
