Gotta love the Stealership and their "that's normal" attitudes! For every issues there's always a solution, even if it's driving it off a cliff!

You would think they would want to make money rather than make a half-hearted attempt.

Damnit..wish I had seen this thread before you bought a new drive shaft.

The U joints should be replaceable, and yer drive shaft can be rebalanced (just like a tire). I've done it on other cars and its a fraction of the cost of a new DS.

Unless it's gotten bent or lost a weight, a drive shaft should not go out of balance. It's more likely that, for whatever reason, the drive shaft has been disconnected and then reconnected in the wrong orientation (i.e. you are supposed to make re-orientation marks whenever it is disconnected!).

Yes, exactly. If it wasn't marked, it is a possibility.

I thought the u joints weren't replaceable. I figured by the time I had it balanced and the center bearing replaced (since it was out of car anyway) that it would cost as much as a new driveshaft. I was probably incorrect in those assumptions.

Well, the car apparently was hit in the rear so maybe that affected it.

Everything seems pretty normal now, the only shudder I get is around 60mph when I let off the throttle. I cleaned the throttle body months ago. Guess I'll try to see if cleaning the MAF and then resetting it helps with that.

Nope, that didn't work. I'll try a high speed wheel balance at the specialty shop near me.

Final wrap up. Took to local specialty shop where they roadforce balanced tires (new Michelins). Was told that one tire was like an egg. Took the car back to Discount Tire and they ordered a new tire for me - no questions asked. Guess Michelins can have problems just like everyone else.

Glad you finally figured out your problem. I have been dealing with my own virbration/humming issues lately. Thought it was a wheel bearing but those act fine, I narrowed it down to the cheap tires that came with the car. Had them rotated and balanced a few months ago but I guess they are just REALLY loud tires. I am saving up to buy some Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus. Just debating on if I should upgrade to 19 inch rims for the G.

Thanks. Rides like a new car now. Smooth. Originally the car had some off brand tires and the ride was much improved with the Michelins but still not perfect. Glad the shop told me what the problem was and Discount Tire fixed it for me.
