Where to begin (performance mods)
Where to begin (performance mods)
Hello! This is my first post on this forum, and I'm just looking for some opinions. I own a 2008 g35 sedan (VQ35HR engine) and am looking to make some upgrades to gain horsepower (and fuel economy, if possible). my question is, what would be a good place to start? I've looked in to both intake and exhaust upgrades but I'm not sure which to do first. Would upgrading intake be pointless due to the restrictiveness of the stock exhaust system? If anyone has any suggestions on specific products, I'm all ears. One last thing, I'm curious about "high flow" catalytic converters. I see them everywhere but am skeptical. Can anyone clear that up? Thanks!
The plenum spacers will not work on our cars. Don't waist your money on a intake. The OEM does very well. Exhaust will be nice though. You can free up HP by getting the light weight pulley and a carbon fiber driveshaft. That will be 20lb off the engine works. HFC are great way to gain HP on mine I was a gain of 16RWHP. I did a before and after dyno.
Do not sell or throw away your OE cats, one never knows when the laws will change!!!

how much restriction the OE converters have you'd welcome the thought of high flow cats! One look at the OE cats and my first thought was, "How does anything get thru there?" HFCs offer no less than 15 WHP all by them selves! Intakes, all you need are quality filters like K&N or AMSOIL for more cleaner air! Mate up those Fast Intention HFCs with a Motordyne exhaust and you have all you need until you get 'er tuned!Gary
Why are you skeptical about HFCs? If you had any

So i have the same car and let me just say this. Myself Stock vs a 2002 mustang gt with full bolt ons, cammed, and tuned pulled on me and pretty hard i might say.(a car length) Now with CAI, Stillen headers( b*tch to install), and header back 2.5 inch x piping into megan mufflers, I pulled on that same exact mustang by the same he had left me before hand. Sounds great too. HFC are really expensive but where they are not required i would just go straight piping into mufflers. I can only imagine how the g is gonna run after a tune. So far 1300 has gone into performance parts. You can probably leave CAI out since its mainly just a nice sound it adds. About fuel economy since no one has really spoken about it. Stock i got about 17.5 to 18 mpg. Right now its marked at 19.2. I thought i would lose mpg but im not complaining. I do drive it pretty hard at times.

Yep. If you want to save money, buy it used on the forums. You can get Fast Intention for just about $300 now. That's the one i did a before and after dyno. Not sure on the other brands but it will be in that ball park of 16WRHP. Test pipes will be a bigger gain.
also what is the main difference in test pipes and HFC I know test pipes are illegal lol
