Mystery of the missing engine cover emblem..

WTH? Either it was stolen by the body shop a week ago, someone at the dealer, vandals took it, or it... Fell off?

I checked around the edges of where the emblem sat, there's no pry marks or anything to indicate it was taken off by force. It looks like there was 4 screws or something attached to the bottom of the emblem, but it looks broken (again, no pry marks)

I googled this, and apparently it's happened before... Some are claiming the glue gets loose over time and it just falls out, which I find unlikely because it looks like there's screws underneath the emblem.... I can't think of reasons why anyone would want to steal it, and or not vandalized other parts of the engine bay.... For that matter, how could they even open the hood??

On eBay, used engine covers are being sold without the emblems as well... Could they just fall off?!

Anyone ever hear of something as absurd as this? The mystery is killing me...

Haha yes, this just recently happened to me. I remembered seeing it there when i opened the hood last time, and recently i opened the hood to check filters and noticed something was missing. I thought i was going crazy since how could the emblem just disappear? And as you said, there are 4 plastic bits holding it on so it appears to be only taken off by force even though nobody had access to my car but me.. weird....so i just masked off the outline of the emblem and painted it black.

How many miles are on your car? Mine has 106k...im trying to get an idea if this really is a glue that lost its adhesive strength over time...

So no one had access to your car at all? Could this just really fall off by itself? Lol wtf...... Such an odd case.

I have 93k on my 08. I am positive nobody had access to my car.No shops or anything and nobody drives my car but me. I initally thought it melted because i took off the deadening material on the hood, but it would have been obvious, so rule that out. It seems it would take a bit of force for it to come off. I have no clue what happened. I guess its just a mystery..lol.

My best guess, some body shop collects souvenirs and you're just one of his victims...Gary

LOL, I had that happened just before I hit 60k miles mark.

And the emblem was just laying there detached. Lucky for me the car was still under warranty so they replaced the whole engine cover no charge.

Lol.... Only infiniti would have an issue like this.

Still, I'm glad to know it does randomly happen to others... Maybe it's not vandalism after all.

Thanks for the responses.... Man talk about weird crap.

No vandalism required!
This is totally typical for these cars. The stupid emblems just spontaneously "let go" at some point in their life. I found mine loose and hanging by a thread, so I just went ahead and put it out of its misery by removing it completely, lest I lose it for good. Someday, I will glue the stupid thing back on with some RTV or something. Now it just sits on top of my tool chest to remind that I bought a cheap Nissan.

I don't recall there being screws; just some small tabs on the back of the emblem that were glued down into sockets in the cover.

Mine was gone when I bought my 07 used at 64k miles.

My friend gave me his gold Infiniti emblem from the back of his 04 i30 or whatever it was before he traded it in.

I painted it black and epoxied it in place. It is smaller than the engine cover emblem but since everything is black it fills up nicely. Put 30k on since and it hasnt gone anywhere.

Epoxy did the trick, poor engineering design on Nissan's part.

Mine fell off twice. After the second time I decided to sand down the indent in the cover where the emblem would usually go and cut out some aluminum tape in the shape of the emblem. I shined it up a bit and it looks good.
