G35: To buy salvage or to not buy salvage

I'm getting ready to buy a used G35. I've seen a lot of salvage ones for sale and I''m wondering if anyone has experience/tips/suggestions/feedback regarding salvage G35's. I'm considering G35's that need repairs and ones that have been repaired. My intuition and experience says to avoid major front end damage. Thanks, Russ

I wouldn't buy one. Cars are never the same after a big accident. Save up and get one in great condition.

If you buy a salvage vehicle and have full insurance on it, you'll lose all your money as insurance won't cut you a check for the value of the vehicle.

Its generally best to avoid salvaged vehicles if you can afford it.

^ This is the best advice hands down.. If you are going for a salvaged G, it better be your weekend race car... That is if it still drives in a straight line and is somewhat salvageable for that matter... Ha ha

The over 400,000 flooded and salvage vehicles from Hurricane Sandy are still around and waiting for suckers like you looking for a bargain.

In almost all cases I would say do not buy a salvaged vehicle. I 'might' be ok with a car that has been in a crash and properly repaired, but 95% of the time I would shy away from those too unless it was only a bumper or something like a door skin that was replaced.

Now, if you really know what you're doing you can turn a salvaged vehicle into a nice DD. I think you would need to be very mechanically inclined and able to do your own body work or have good resources for this to be worth the cost.

But know that the car will always be salvaged. Even if you do an excellent job repairing it the salvaged title will prevent you from selling it for anything close to a non-salvaged car of the same condition. And it WILL be a tough sell. If you plan on keeping it for a long time then great, but I think its difficult to flip a repaired car for a profit, unless the seller cheats the salvaged title.

Some states are different in a lot of aspects, also.
After you fix it, it has to be inspected by state police, then dmv to get a salvage title issued.
Insurance, some companies wont give you insurance on a salvaged vehicle.
Loan, if you need to get a loan, a lot of companies will deny anything with a salvage title.
Resale Value - salvage title is worth HALF of blue book value, even then they're a hard sale.
