Sport Model Owners - Do we need to replace the VLSD?

i read this on wikipedia about VLSDs:

Typically a visco-differential that has covered 60,000 miles (97,000 km) or more will be functioning largely as an open differential. The silicone oil is factory sealed in a separate chamber from the gear oil surrounding the rest of the differential. This is not serviceable; when the differential's behavior deteriorates, the VLSD center must be replaced.
How do we know for sure if we need to replace our VLSD? Has anyone done it?

well do a burnout and see if you have 1 or 2 stripes behind you lol. I'm not sure if anyone has done it, but I know a new viscous coupler costs upwards of $545....

You'd be dumb to replace it with another vlsd. A helical LSD would be the best way to go. Works similarly to a vlsd but with actual gears instead of discs that wear out.

205K here. Two stripes.

Jack it up and notice how hard it is to turn one wheel. Unless you are racing, or driving 10-10ths, I doubt you can scrutinize exactly how well it is performing to a specific percent.
