PCV fittings
PCV fittings
Ive been meaning to install my oil catch cans for a while now and i need some help, I want to replace the current pcv fittings with some AR fitting i just do not know the correct size that will replace the current one. Let me know if im correct i will be removing the current breather hose thats in the front that connects to both intakes and one hose will go to the intake and another to the pcv and connect to the oil catch can. I will have to cap in the rear of the manifold as removing the passenger side hose that connects to it and doing the same there.
i was looking at the EPS pcv delete system. and its like $80. i was just thinking about going to auto zone (or wherever) and buying one of those little filters and some plugs and other things to make my own pcv delete system. I was thinking about drilling out the old pcv valve and connecting a vacuum hose to that to connect the filter to. Then just plugging up all the other intake holes and manifold holes. Sounds way cheaper to me than $80! any ideas?
I strongly recommend to NOT use a system like that, with a proper PCV delete you need to run the gasses into a proper catch can and then through an atmospheric filter. That system uses no catch can and instead just attaches the filter to the end of the hose, the problem is there is a lot of vaporized motor oil with the gasses and it will just make a big nasty oily spot on your engine where those filters are installed.
Even a cheap 2 in 1 out catch can with some kind of media will work but you really do need the catch can. There's a reason you see one installed on all the good systems.

You can still do it on the cheap too, route the PCV valves together into a can with a vent on the top. The biggest reason for purchasing a kit is they are usually already cut to length and engineered to be very "aesthetically pleasing". If you're looking for purely function and tastefully route your hoses it will look just fine, make sure to place the connecting end of your zip ties DOWNWARD or HIDDEN so you don't see them, that's the biggest mistake I see people make with routing aftermarket cable and hose in the engine bay.
Also just so you're fully informed, the PCV system does have it's benefits, it's not ENTIRELY (although it is mostly) about emissions but the system sucks fresh air from the intake pipe into the driver valve cover which then passes through the pipe at the front of the intake to the passenger valve cover which is then drawn directly to the intake manifold. Blow-by gasses are fairly nasty and corrosive, an atmospherically vented can does allow the gasses to exit but it does nothing to keep fresh air circulated through the valve covers the way the system is designed to work on the OEM equipment. The gasses contaminate your oil faster and is one reason why I chose to just go with a catch can between the PCV valve and the intake manifold and NOT an atmospheric open setup.
On the G I'd say it's user discretion which type of system to use since the VQ is fairly notorious for consuming oil through the PCV system which is definitely not good for the motor and catch can't don't actually catch ALL the oil.
