tpms light

tpms light
I had my car serviced over the weekend. The technician said that tpms light which has been on for 1 month means I have at least 1 bad tpms since the pressures were all fine. It would cost $280 per tire to repair after diagnosis on which one(s) are bad. Is this reasonable? Is there a way to turn the light off? Thanks.

I suspect the dealer would be cheaper?

ce3po, you can go on Ebay and buy all four or just one OE sensors for very little $$. Any tire store will install sensors and identify the bad sensor for you. From the cost quoted it sounds like you went to the Stealership for service! You should have asked them if you had "Stupid" written on your forehead?
Shop around, call a few independent tire shops and find out what they charge to install tpms sensors. I'm not a fan of those big shops like Goodyear of Firestone and for sure not Pep Boys or Sears! To turn off the dash warning disconnect the negative side of your battery for 15 minutes, it may come back on after you've driven a few miles until replaced!

Get a 2nd opinion from americas tire! they are free! I had them scanned all 4 of my wheels when my tpms light came on after driving it through some winter snow. No sensors were bad and they just reset it never came on again.
If you end up having a bad sensor they have them too available for way cheaper than $280. Then just paypal me the rest of the $$$, I'll pm you my paypal info. Thanks

I concur with deeliciousqueen. American Tire can scan your TPMS... Usually a faulty sensor or the battery is weak and on it's way out!

Apparently these aftermarket sensors are good and work for our cars. Im looking to get as set myself and have them installed at a local tire shop. I can re calibrate myself using the DIY

Who has experience using these sensors from rock auto? are they reliable and headache free? I'll be needing a set soon.

PS> if you look closely, you can see that the reason for the steep discount on the Dorman parts is due to an inventory closeout from one of their suppliers. The same part can be had through their current suppliers for about 50% higher price (which is more comparable to the OEM type = DENSO).

These are usually up for sale - https://www.ebay.com/itm/291546459016
Yea no thanks. For $9 more i'll take my chances with a real company, not cheap Ebay Chinese made knockoffs.
