Exhaust Tip Clean -- Get in Here! 08 G35 Journey
Did some shining today..
Didn't think it would come out as good as it did. Took about 45 minutes and some elbow grease and they turned out great
Supplies needed:
- Windex
- Steel wool (#0000 or the three pack at AutoZone) Use moderate grain. Tough but no swirls!
- Paper towels
- Microfiber towel
- Chrome polish (Blue Metal or Mothers)
- Gloves (for steel wool and polish application)
Steps:
1. Spray a good amount of Windex on one exhaust tip.
2. Take moderate grain steel wool and rub in one direction with some muscle. I tried not to do a circle motion but it happened unconsciously. No swirls but just remember even strokes to be safe.
3. Wipe away oxidation/grime with paper towel.
4. If needed after first application, spray more Windex on tips and continue to rub with steel wool until desired outcome is achieved.
5. Dry with paper towel and get all excess dirt/grime off cleaned areas.
6. Take your microfiber towel and dip into polish (use a tiny amount at first and apply more as needed so you do not over apply or have excess that cannot be rubbed in).
7. Wait about 5-7 minutes until you see a black residue or darkening of the polish then wipe away with a clean microfiber towel. Make sure to buff, elbow grease is key to getting the shine!
8. Step back and enjoy your brand new looking tip
Repeat steps 1-8 in order for the other exhaust tip. Desired finish will depend on amount of time spent applying Windex and steel wool. As you can see, my exhaust tips have probably never been touched and they came out looking new after 45 minutes.
Hopefully this will help some of you. This can be used on stainless steel or plain metal however, if you have rust on your exhaust, shy away from this DIY. It won't be beneficial for ya!
Cheers
