Ahoy, mateys
Chris : I forgot the coolant schedule. i have changed it out (flush method) every other summer (approximately every 50 thousand miles) I replaced the radiator hoses, thermostat and radiator cap at 211 thousand.
Thank you Gee to be 35 Again...i will take my reprieve gladly.... I do a good deal of work in Raleigh primarily for WCPSS and occasionally at NCSU and other State agencies

Have you had the issue with the paper timing cover seals (I think that's what they are... I could be wrong) blowing out? That freaks me out a little, but seems to not be all too widespread.
Actually Chris i have never heard of the timing cover seals or them being an issue. As for your hoses if you have your oil changed at a shop - ask them to give the hoses a good once over. It should be part of the cursory examination of your car whenever it is serviced anyway - at a thorough shop. If you inspect them yourself -they need to be supple for their entire length and check especially where they clamp on to the engine/radiator for cracks or splits. I just figured after over 8 years and 211 thousand miles - it was a logical PM step. I have over maintained this car - i have no doubt about that. It is just I HATE HATE HATE breaking down on the road. I did it a few times in my much younger years - and every time i believed it was avoidable had i been proactive in my maintenance approach to my car.

I believe the seller genuinely didn't know what was wrong with it. He bought a new battery for it two days before he sold it to me because "it was starting slowly" The REAL issue was the alternator voltage regulator - I drove to Jacksonville from Savannah to buy the car (2 hours) and it died on the highway in Jacksonville as the battery had drained entirely. That was scary, the electronics started behaving erratically and then the car just... stopped.
There was ONE of these voltage regulators in all of Jacksonville - I had to leave a car I just (with no license plates) bought in a random gas station parking lot and PRAY it didn't get towed/stolen while I got the part.
Plus side, two little screws to get that bad boy out and replaced and the car ran/charged flawlessly & got home to Savannah with zero issues.
