Program new key?
Program new key?
I just purchased a 2008 G35s......Black on Black, put my first hundred miles on it. NICE! Looking for some help, I only got one remote key with the car (4 button), I would like to get another key. I see tons of them on the internet, but it would have to be programmed.
Can anyone comment on the cost to have it programmed? And, I do not have the tag or card that I understand has the code for the car......can it still be done?
Thanks,
Jet

There's two different systems and I'm not sure which you have, first is the standard RFID key + fob, the other is the Nissan "intelligent key". If you have a push-to-start button on the dash you have the intelligent key system and the whole process will need to be programmed by the dealership.
If you have to insert a key into the ignition to start then you have so.e options, adding a physical KEY will require the RFID to be programmed on the key for it to work, adding just a fob however is easy, the programming can be googled and just requires you to actuate the door lock, ignition, fob in a specific sequence to program it to the vehicle.

You may want to try a locksmith in your area, I had my key fob program at a locksmith's shop for less than half of the dealer's $120 charge(price from 6 years ago) and they even cut the pull out key.

In case anyone is looking for a DIY duplicator and fob for intelligent FOB / pushbutton start cars:

They are about $90 at rockauto.com. That's what I'm getting for both of our 08' G35x's

I just checked with the dealership about getting a spare made, $190 for the RFID "intelligent" fob, $15 for the key that goes into the fob, and $120 for programming the key to my car. Even the guy at the parts counter told me to look elsewhere for key blank and fob, I've seen them as low as $50 on Ebay.

You can buy a used one or aftermarket FOB on ebay and have the dealership program for $120. I have my local locksmith cut the blank keys for $6 each. Just a tip, make sure if buying a aftermarket FOB that they have good feedback and they are the correct type because Infiniti will charge you $120 even if they can't program the new unit.
