Getting vibrating/rattling noise from engine?

Hey guys, I just got a used g35x, and now I hear a vibrating rattling noise from the engine. I am automatically assuming the worst and thinking it has to do with the timing chain. Can you guys give me some input?

Sounds like the heat shields on the exhaust. Get under it with a mechanics stethoscope and poke around for the noise, if getting under the vehicle while it's running is a problem then find a local lube shop that will let you use their pit for a couple minutes. Throwing money at them always works, especially if they don't have customers waiting.

Did you ever get a resolution on this? Pretty sure I'm having the same problem.

Yup, one of my cats were bad so that was making noise and I had a exhaust leak on my y pipe making noise too

edit: just listened to your video. It sounds like one or maybe both your cats are bad. The honeycomb or whatever is loose and rattling inside. Atleast that’s what it sounds like to me

I'm so thankful for this post. I developed the same noise before my car went into storage last year and i was afraid that it was piston pin/bearing clearance or chain noise. My y-pipe has seen better days so at first i thought it was an exhaust leak but I can't really feel it.

Definitely share your results!

Confirmed it's at bad cat on driver's side. No codes or CEL, so just going to keep driving it for now.
