Near the back of the cylinder head for bank 1 (passenger side bank). There are two and both stick up out of the valve cover. I believe you'll have to remove the throttle body for good access. And which one, specifically, are you looking for? The one close to the intake is the phase sensor (or intake cam sensor) and the other is the exhaust cam sensor.

 

 

Ya know, you can look these up as easily as anyone else. P0011 is for the intake cam timing, P0014 is for the exhaust cam timing. Do a search on the forum and you'll find lots of information. Given you're getting codes for both it may be the variable valve timing control on the front of the engine. Bank 1 should be the passenger side if I'm not mistaken.

If you have a P0014/P0024 you will need to replace the 2 VTC cover/exhaust retarders on the front of the engine. After they are replaced the dealer will need to perform an exhaust valve timing relearn procedure for you.

Exhaust timing relearn can be performed without Consult-II, start the engine, leave vehicle in park, turn off AC, headlights, window defoggers, heated seats, etc. Point the steering wheel perfectly straight forward and hold the rpms at just below 2k for 20 seconds, use a stopwatch, personally I go 25 seconds to be safe.

 

What symptoms were you having before you eventually threw those codes? I believe I may have a cam sensor going bad on me. Although it hasnt happened enough to throw a code yet. I get an intermittent stutter during acceleration. Mostly when the car has just been started. It does not seem to do it much after the car has been run for a while or hot. Since I dont have any check engine light codes, I'm trying to diagnose it myself. I believe its possibly a cam sensor, crank sensor, or a coil failing.

 

Is your stutter like a hesitation when you press the accelerator? If so, you might try going through the throttle relearn procedures. Do all three. This cured a hesitation I had.

 

yes, hesitation when pressing the gas. I cleaned the throttle bodies, MAFs, new air filters, and new spark plugs hoping it would fix it. I also did the throttle relearn procedure too. It has not fixed it.

I'd rather not just throw money at new parts. (i've been down that road before)(keep buying new ****, and it still never gets fixed) I suppose I'll just wait it out until it starts doing it more frequently, and hope it throws a code.

What % is your fuel trim, this can tell you a lot about a potential minor vacuum leak, they will behave exactly as the problem you're having. Also watch your sensor 1 data for bank 1 and 2 O2 sensors, make sure they are cycling properly because that can cause the same problem.

 

how do i check my fuel trim %? I dont have a way to check the data for my o2 sensors either. I use a scanguage II, which just plugs into the obd2 port and reads the info from the computer. It can scan for codes, but only if there is a check engine light on.
