rack & pinion seal kit or remanufactured unit?

My 2004 G35x rack and pinion is leaking a lot so I need to do something. The remanufactured units are expensive yet I can purchase a seal kit for around $40. Is this a job that can save me money and be performed by a competent mechanic (not at the dealership) or am I better off biting the bullet and going with the remanufactured unit and letting my mechanic do the R&R?

I just bought the Reman option with the inner tie rods attached.

I'd go with a reman and check out rackdoctor.net you might be able to get a good for 200-400 bucks I think. I've done research on this with my Audi and it's a lot of labor and work replacing the seals without proper tools and if you make one small mistake it will leak again.

The last R&P rebuild I did took like 10 hours because everything was badly seized up, if your R&P LOOKS corroded I would definitely go with the remanufactured unit. If you're just swapping inner/outer tie rod ends though that is MUCH quicker than doing a full bearing/seal/bushing kit.
