no oil pressure at idle, 222K miles, advice?

Hi, I have a 2007 G35X, 222,000 miles, bought new. Oil changed properly the whole time.

It's now got about 7 psi of oil pressure at idle when hot. Pressure light is on. Goes away with rpm increase.

I took it to a mechanic who put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine through the port where the oil pressure sender is attached.

He advises just drive it, put it in neutral at lights, air-conditioning off, it may last a while as I shop for a new car. He says its probably not even the pump but a combination of things most likely bearing clearances. Pretty much what I expected. I drained the oil and put in 10W-40 and still the same.

Anything else I should do? Any recommendations?

Thanks

I didn't have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, so took it to a trusted mechanic.

So he checked with a mechanical gauge?

Could also be the galley gaskets.

Check out this thread for some ideas on where to start. I highly doubt the mechanic installed a mechanical gauge but maybe he did? Definitely verify and if he did NOT then you probably should have an electric gauge and a new sender at minimum. Preferrably a mechanical.

sorry for the confusion, he installed a Snap-On mechanical oil pressure gauge to the port where the sending unit is and it read 7 psi at warm idle

Ok, galley gaskets are a definite cause of low oil pressure. Do you have any trouble codes?, Typically there will be a P0021 / P0011 codes along with it because the cam actuators aren't working with low oil pressure.

Car is not throwing any codes from what I can tell - no lights are on other than the oil light
