Coolant Temp Seems High
Coolant Temp Seems High
Is it normal for my coolant temp to be around 210 degrees? I was driving around today and my coolant gauge was saying it was normal but I have a scanner plugged into my car that tells me my gas mileage, engine RPMs and coolant temperature. It was reading between 210 and 215 degrees. Is that too hot?
I would expect around 200 for mine with that temp outside. I can't really say for sure about your car, would need to see temps on other days. I'll just say that I'd be curious if mine went that high, but only because I've seen it normally at a lower temp. Have you had the coolant flushed recently?
Seems a bit high, we are in the 60s here and my odb reads 175-190 on a normal drive. I just installed a new oem thermostat (another issue) so yes your a bit high. At 210 your fans must be running overtime because they kick on at 213

Pressure test the system, might not be holding proper pressure and have a tiny leak that's venting off steam which is a VERY slow leak but will cause temp issues.
Also if you haven't flushed the coolant in the last 30k it would be a good time to do it.

crazy because mine is doing the same thing. I had recently changed all my hoses, thermostat, cap, new coolant, etc, roughly 8000 miles ago. I use a scangauge and i have been sitting around 204-207 lately. And it's been cool outside, like 40-55ish. It has me worried. But seems to be running perfect and the stock gauge is where it always has been, just under middle.

I started the car up today. It was idling fine. The temperature went up to 214. I dont think the fans kicked on. Once again the stock gauge said my temp was perfect but the OBD one said it was 214.
Fans should definitely be at high speed by 214 F.
Perform the IPDM self-test and make sure your fans turn on. It's operation sequence 6 in the list of tests the IPDM will do, it will run the fans at 50% for 5 seconds then 100% for 5 seconds. This will verify the IPDM, relay, and fan motors all work properly.
