Quaife LSD questions
So, i'm going to get a new diff, I've settled on a Quaife LSD. I'm not sure what else I'll need to go with it. I would really like to just get a Quaife already installed in a pumpkin, but the only option for that is from Z1 and thats 2400$ vs 1200$ for just the Diff internals. If i bought just the Quaife LSD, what else do I need to get?
Told you it was going to be expensive. Installing requires precision measurements and shimming to get everything perfect. I would not recommend doing it yourself for the first time with an expensive LSD.
Thanks, I'm going to bring it to a shop to have them do it all, I wouldn't want to mess this thing up! I don't want to show up to the shop with less than the required hardware / parts to get it done, is there anything else you think i'll need? really looking for advice from someone who's swapped a Quaife LSD in to their G
Front and side oil seals, side bearings. If you have the factory VLSD you will need the right side stub shaft from a stock NON-VLSD differential. Or you can take the existing one and cut the end off the shaft about 1/4" after the splined grooves with a port-a-band to shorten up the factory one. Call ahead to the shop doing the work and make sure they know about this ahead of time if you're going to have them cut the existing shaft.
EDIT: The bearings are going to be destroyed when they're taken off the existing shafts, you WILL need new ones so this isn't optional equipment I'm suggesting. Oil seals probably have a lot of miles and it's only like $20 for new ones so might as well replace them while it's apart.

I was just looking up a video for you so you have an idea what the install would be like, couldn't find anything so you just need to look up generic LSD installation on any axle. Every axle is basically the same.
However the Z1 Motorsports video on the Quaife he has both stub shafts sitting on the counter during the video, the taller one is the VLSD, the shorter one is the open diff so then VLSD shaft would need to be cut down to about the same height.

You'll need new carrier bearings, pinion bearings, and shims to set preload and backlash. I didn't replace the axle seals when I did mine, but they were on backorder.
Not trying to do this myself, if it was a cheap welded diff I would, but this bad boy can't be missed up or i'll be screwed lol. For sure going to bring it to a professional shop, thank all you so much for the helpful information!!
