G35x No crank. Starter Not clucking. Power to cabin
So i wanted to make this post to discuss an issue that i had within my current 30+ days of ownership of the vehicle as I'd figure that it would help someone. I had a no crank issue a few days back & got stuck in the DMV parking lot after having all my registration paperwork turned back to me. I depressed the brake pedal & pushed the start button and got absolutely nothing, did not hear a clicking noise or anything from the starter as well. There was another click that i was able to hear in the cabin, but this was it.
Things to take note of:
-Is the starter not making any noise?
-Is the infotainment shutting off as you hold the button & brake
-Can you hear a clicking from inside the battery compartment?
If this sounds like you then you have a bad starter relay within the IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module). How much would a replacement cost? No idea, i went a different route for replacement that only costed me $13 @ Autozone.
This is what the IDPM Module looks like open. The culprit is the little black relay to the right of the photo on the module. This is what you will hear clicking, it is the relay attempting to open & close. You will find this black box vertically tucked into the battery compartment closest to the wheel well. You're probably gonna want to remove the battery and the shrouds to get to it easily. It will slide right off the mount by depressing the 2 clips on the back.
I replaced my ipdm starter relay as well because of corroded pins. The original P/N is ACM33201. Nowadays, an equivalent relay is ACM33221. They are both labelled NAIS, which is a Panasonic relay. I got 2 of them from aliexpress for ~ $8. I see it on eBay.com as well as digikey.com.
Keep in mind tho, this is a 20 Amp relay, which in turn triggers the big 200Amp relay located at the starter motor.
