07 G35 Sedan Sport Lip Install
Hi, I've had the sport lip sitting in my garage and haven't put it on yet. Didn't have a lot of time to do so before, but now I do. Only problem is I can't find the hardware, template, or instructions. Can anyone help me out?
Installation of those things are usually pretty straightforward and don't require special instructions or templates. Hold it into place with a couple of "cowboy clamps" on the back side to get it aligned where you want. Then run a couple stripes of blue painters tape from the bumper down around the whole thing, cut the tape and use it as an exact match mark. Also put a couple pieces of tape lengthwise right at the point where the front of the lip goes.
Now you have an accurate way to line it up perfectly, remove the cowboy clamps, prep the surface with isopropyl alcohol THOROUGHLY until the rag stays clean, as the others mentioned only use 3M body tape designed specifically for adhering automotive components like that. Stick it in place, put the cowboy clamps back on to help keep it in place while you use your hands to squeeze the two components together and after about 15 minutes remove the clamps and you're done.
Depending on the front lip you can also drill and aluminum rivet in a few places for extra hold, you will need to use small aluminum washers as well, I wouldn't use more than 4, two at the far ends then split the distance into 3rds and add the other two. It's usually not necessary to use rivets though, more of a track thing when you know you're going to be popping the curb with the lip spoilers.
If you habitually run the front of your car into curbstops in parking lots then you definitely want the rivets.
