Interesting Climate Control Issue, need advice

Hi All,

I need some ideas on which part I need to replace. A little background.

2008 G35X Sedan 135000
- Radio and all controls from both the steering wheel and control face plate seem to work fine.
- In manual mode the A/C fan works fine at each level one bar to full bars. (I have a slight feeling its not blowing has hard on the highest level as it used to but that could be a perception issue)
- In the morning when I turn the climate control to its lowest (coolest) setting the fan only blows at level 1 even though the car temp is 80 degrees.
- In the afternoon when the G has set in the sun all day and its hot inside, the lowest setting kicks off the fan and it starts running at the highest level.
- Intermittently in the afternoon when I turn the temp down the fan speed also reduces. (counter to what should actually happen)

I think I am looking at replacing the radio / AC control module? Might go ahead with a Sony Bluetooth radio upgrade from crutchfield while I'm in there.

Thoughts?

Thanks to all who contribute to this forum. It has saved me thousands in repairs!!

So your problems only happens when in AUTO climate control right?

And the outside ambient temp display appears to be showing correctly yes?

If that's the case I would suspect the interior/cabin ambient sensor. It's mounted on the left side of the AC unit up under the dash, you can actually get to it from the driver footwell it's above the gas pedal. Tight fit but you can reach it.

Sitting in the driver seat above your gas pedal knee there is a little "quarter slot", that's actually an air intake that sucks air into the ambient sensor to measure cabin air temp, if that little grating is blocked it will measure wrong air temp, so I would check that with a flashlight as well.

If you look up above the gas pedal under the dash you will see a little tube going from that grill/vent onto the side of the AC unit to a small sensor, that's the cabin air ambient sensor.

This is what it looks like on my 2006 coupe, should be similar on the V36 sedan chassis.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to actually read the data without Consult-II/III so you can't just plug in a scanner and see what temp it is measuring, it's typically one of those rare times you "throw parts at the car" and hope it fixes the issue.

Thank you, I will confirm the outside temp display and research the interior temp monitor. Appreciate all your guidance!

The V35 has a diagnostic mode on the climate control that will allow you to cycle through each temp sensor and display what that value is, so it can be compared to the ambient temp. It also does various other checks on the sensors, actuators, as well as communication checks. I would assume the V36 has that as well.
