Serpentine belt problem

sound -
About 3-4 months ago when it started getting colder out in NE I noticed my belt would squeal on colder mornings. I brought it to get serviced and was charged to get it replaced after the tech said it was visibly cracked/damaged. It completely fixed the problem and was daily driven for a month until one morning it came back. Same exact noise coming from the drive belt that goes away after idling for long enough (5+ mins) or driven. Now that it is below freezing out every day it sounds atrocious on cold starts and I finally had the time to drop it off today to get looked at again.

Currently the car is sitting waiting to be looked at and I was wondering what could of caused the squeak to come back. Im hoping that they just need to readjust the belt. Does the thing that spins the belt ever go bad?

My belt squealed at one point but it eventually went away on it's own.

Your new belt probably just wore in/stretched out so it just needs to be tightened again.

Wonder if the auto tensioner is going out ? Take a picture of top of the tensioner pulley… tension needs to be between those two marks you see at the top. I replace my belt every 30k miles as IIRC.. that is what the maintenance manual suggests. Tensioner is on passenger side and easily seen from top

Nothing to manually adjust tension…..it’s auto-tensioning… either bad belt, residue on pulley or belt, defective tensioner or pulley on other driven device off of the belt

Update- It was the tensioner and I gotta drop a good 550$ on it which sucks considering I was charged 250 with taxes included to get the belt replaced by the same place couple months ago. Don’t know why they didn’t notice the tensioner the 2 times they did a full vehicle check but it what it is.
After all I bought a 14 year old luxury car so I am getting what I signed up for. She had low miles when I bought her (79k now 87k) just wasn't expecting to spend over 1k on basic maintenance in my first 9 months owning the car. Planning on keeping the car until it dies out so hopefully it pays off

You can lubricate the tensioner to see if it helps but don't lubricate the belt.

A lot of this stuff is super easy. Watch a few youtube videos and you can save a lot of money doing the work yourself.

Other than what was covered under Infiniti warranty just maintenance costs on mine… I purchased new… and only 120k miles on my ‘07 G35x I’ve had since 3/2007. Tensioner is still within spec and purchase the expensive parts from Japan at significant discount.

$101 + shipping for tensioner

What you're hearing in that video is not belt squeal, that is a bad bearing on one of the pulleys being driven by the belt. The primary culprit is almost always the tensioner pulley but once you have the belt off you can spin them all by hand and it's usually GLARINGLY OBVIOUS which one/s are making noise.

Go on rockauto.com and price out the pulley kit, belt, etc. May give some negotiating points.
I splurged and got a gearwrench tensioner set from Amazon. Aramid belt and everything else was ~ $250. There are good write ups in the forum.

I got a squeal on start around 212k miles. 2007 G35x.

$550?! that's highway robbery, my man. get you a 14mm and go to town on that pulley and new belt, then buy yourself something for $500 that you've always wanted.
