Water Pump, Timing, & Gallery Gasket Replacement Tips
Water Pump, Timing, & Gallery Gasket Replacement Tips
After being quoted an absurd amount by local shops to do the timing and gallery gaskets in my 08 g35, I'm gonna be taking it on myself.
I've seen some pretty good YouTube videos showing the work involved and the full breakdown.
Does anyone have any input and things I should note/be cautious of when taking on this job?
Is there a website online I can download a service manual?
Youtube links/tools needed, etc would also be helpful!
Thanks!

Just did this service at 135K and have a few tips. Cobbled together a crank pulley tool based off a Subaru crank tool I already own - see pic. Was able to perform with radiator installed but certainly need to remove fans. Galley gaskets had failed and replaced those with the Z1 kit. Replaced water pump, guides and tensioner - guides looked perfect but had purchased the parts. Real concern was how to carefully place the timing cover with sealant. I created a couple 6mm guide pins from a pair of bolts M6x 70 I purchased locally - see pic. Also used them to locate the oil pan during install. Those guides really help to carefully place the cover.

for crank pulley, i used a crescent wrench and wedged it against the cover (thru the pulley), while using a big a$$ jack handle on the prybar to pop it loose. pictures here: Water pump decisions with 245k on the clock - G35Driver - Infiniti G35 & G37 Forum Discussion
Did not do the crank sprocket or chain. I hope I never need to go back in there!
I purchased the Nissan caulk gun tube. Most sealant I applied to the cover and an xtra bead on the bottom motor side. Just layed a bead on inside cover edge and no smoothing - looked almost factory when tightened.
That tensioner for the serpentine belt is so close to the face of the alternator it is concerning.
