Do I have to remove timing chains for water pump?
Do I have to remove timing chains for water pump?
I’m considering cracking open my timing cover to do the water pump on my vq35hr 2007 g35x sedan.
It’s been leaking coolant from the water pump area for a little while now, and i’m concerned the pump is going to fail completely soon. I took it to a shop, and they agreed they suspect the pump. The weird thing is, i was watching coolant drip and it was not coming from the weep hole. Some say it might be leaking out the side of the timing cover, but i’m confused how i have no coolant in my oil then.
Besides the point, my question is if i can replace the water pump without removing the timing chain. One mechanic told me there is a tool which can hold the tension of the chain while you extract the pump. This would be huge for me, because I REALLY don’t want to have to worry about timing the entire motor.
