Should be rubber bumpers attached to studs on the inside that keep it from going deep like that. I think.... Not near mine right now, but I think the bumpers are on the body, not the door.
Is this the part you’re referring to?
Yeah, I have a 2008 Sedan. So it could be different

Here’s what my fuel door inside looks like. If it gives a better pov.

You don't show the outboard edge of the fuel door, but looking at the parts diagram, looks to me like you need two bumpers. They appear to attach to the non-hinge side of the fuel door in the top and bottom corners. There should be holes out there in the fuel door where they get stuck in.

Is this a better picture? Sorry for the inconvenience

top picture of the last pair. See the two bumpers top and bottom outside corners of the frame holding the fuel door? They look worn out--smashed flat. I believe if you get two new bumpers and dig those old suckers out and push the pointy end of the new bumpers into the retainer holes, you'll be golden.

You’re talking about these correct?

It’s also possible that the frame that holds them got bent when the door got pressed in too hard. You might first check to see if they are bent. If so, try to bend them back into position, but don’t lever on the fuel door; use needle nose pliers or similar to grab and bend. Don’t use a screwdriver against the fuel door.
