SD is also pretty small to fumble around with while driving. CF is somehthing you can get your hand on.

I agree with you here. My guess is they chose this format so that one could go directly from their camera/pda to the car.

I just get so frustrated with the different memory formats.

My camera uses Memory Stick Pro.
My PDA can use either CF or SD, though I generally use my 1GB SD.

Which means that, on vacation, I can't just decide to use my extra SD cards for pictures.

My first digital camera used Smart Media, though at 64MB for my biggest SM card, I probably wouldn't be using it in my new camera anyway

Maybe it has an AUX in. It could be in the console or something. There's no pictures of the inside of the console.

if you look at the center console pic on top it has a DISC/AUX button. i knew about the flash card system for 10 months when they were in development --- i guess thats why i never bought an iPod. lol

But the audio system is the most interesting bit of kit. It's not a discrete 5.1 setup, but it features what Infiniti calls a home theater-spec 24-bit Burr Brown amplifier chip and a 9.5G hard drive so you can store music in the car, rather than having to always hook up your iPod. Plus, the G35 sedan's front doors were designed specifically to accommodate the system's 10-inch Bose woofers.

I think this is by far the best way to go...
Just us the CF to transfer data.... no need for an ipod craddle etc.
+ interface designed to better navigate the folders.

What would be nice... is a CF / ipod (USB) adaptor for loading the HD

See now THAT would be f-ing SMART! EVERYTHING is USB now and integrated usb hubs cost what? Like about $1.17 OEM? They should have put one of those in - then you could use a reader for any media (CF/SD/MMC/XD/ETC), or any number of USB hard drives.

Very possible - the new Passat has the optional Dynaudio sound system (btw - the BEST factory system I have EVER HEARD - makes Mark Levenson sound like Audiovox!) Well, the doors were designed around the speakers as well and there is a distinct bass rattle.

What would be even sweeter is if they had a wireless receiver built in so you could wirelessly transfer mp3/wma's to the car's hard drive from your home pc. Holla!!
