A few new technical details :)

As quoted from: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=110002

After the press conference we pressed Thomas Crahan, regional G35 product manager, for specifics. He told us the front suspension has a new single-pivot design to reduce kickback and improve steering feel, while in back engineers fiddled with the camber and toe to improve high-speed stability. Sport models get unique springs, dampers and antiroll bars, as well as 18-inch wheels in place of the standard 17s.

There's also a new steering system that apportions power assist according to vehicle speed rather than engine speed. "We also did some work on the bushings in order to deliver what we hope to be class-leading steering feel," Crahan added.

Brakes are upgraded on base G sedans, while Sport versions feature larger rotors and unique calipers. There's also a new controller design for the VDC stability control system, which Crahan describes as "very nuanced" in its on/off logic. And, he said, "when you turn it off, it's 'off' unless there's oversteer and brake application at the same time."

Under the hood, the "80 percent new" engine still displaces 3.5 liters but has a new block designed to reduce NVH and offer more "silkiness." Additionally, the V6 has a two-stage intake and a new dual-exhaust system. Infiniti estimates it will produce "more than 300 horsepower," compared to today's 298-hp peak.

Transmission choices are the same as last year, but the six-speed manual gets refined synchronizers, while the five-speed automatic gets magnesium paddle shifters, downshift rev-matching and a yaw-rate sensor so it holds gears in turns. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be offered.

"We liked the original Infiniti G35, but it lagged behind the 3 Series in performance, luxury and all-out refinement. With the 2007 G35 we have a feeling it will be a closer battle. We're told pricing will be "roughly the same" as the old G. — Erin Riches"

Really the G lagged behind the 3 in performance I thought it was equal or even slightly better than the 3 in 0-60 times, the quarter and in handling.

Now what I really want to know is the specs for the base brakes and the new sports brakes and see if us 03 and 04 owners can add as a beneficial mod. It also looks like I may have to upgrade my suspension one more time seeing as the 06 sport coupe sways I current have are being upgraded to something better(I hope?)? Well this is all in all some good news.

That is what really interests me, an auto that MAY be as good as the MT6!

Even though the numbers were usually better overall, the testers seem to prefer the Bimmer's driving & road feel more. Many said the 330i was better in the subjective sense for driving enthusiasts, but the $10K difference repeatedly made them forget about that since the performance was so close.

You might be thinking of the many reviews that had to use a 325i (instead of the 330i) just to stay in the same price range for comparison.

It won't be as good, but hopefully it will be tolerable. No true auto is ever as good as a manual. No matter what kind of gismos they use to make it behave a little more like one, it's always going to be a poor immitation.

I wish other companies would develop a transmission equal to VW/Audi's DSG. That is a great transmission, but unfortunately VW/Audi only build FWD or front-biased AWD cars which behave like a FWD anyway. I currently drive a GTI 337, and while there are many things to like about the car, the steering is plain horrible. FWD cars just simply can't be as good as a rear driver in that respect. I'm moving to the city soon, so my six-speed manual 1.8T GTI is not a good match. If only you could get a G35X with a DSG tranny. I'll try out the auto, hopefully it is livable. If not I'll probably go with a new GTI with DSG, despite the FWD steering vagueness and mild torque steer.
