I want to express my opinion on this issue and I also don't want you mods to puss your MOD card on me and try to overpower me with it.

I'm not going to protect anybody as it is not my nature.



First things first. Has anyone done any research on the Projector Recall Issue?

I'm basing my opinion on the information I know. If anyone here knows something diff then please enlighten me.

INFINITI did a recall on the projector headlights due to them being TOO BRIGHT. What you got with new headlights is just a new bulb which was less brighter then the old one.


Now please note. That Recall was VOLUNTARY. Therefore it's up to the consumer/owner of the car to do it.
INFINITI did what was necessary to protect them selves by offering the recall and it was up to consumer to choose if he wants to do it or not.

Which brings me to conclusion that it was not that important of an Issue.
I'm assuming that it was something that was not that expensive for manufacture to handle to eliminate future threat.

Now with all that information available we can come to a conclusion that having those headlight still on the car is not only NOT ILLEGAL but also BETTER.

Now the other Issue. Stolen goods. I never saw an article in the news paper about Police catching a thief picking good in the dumpster. And as far as I know that's where all those headlights went............INTO THE DUMPSTER.
Some dealerships tried to drill holes in them to prevent so called "STEELING" but most just threw them out and as the results they all ended up on E-BAY and diff car forums


Now the Idea of Illegal good being sold on this forum is the worst thing I ever heard on this thread.

How many headlight overlays were sold on this forum that made all of our cars Illegal to drive?

How many tail light overlays were sold on this forum that made all of our cars Illegal to drive?

How many suspension parts were sold on this forum that made our cars too low/Illegal to drive?

How many Engine Performance parts were sold on this forum that made our cars in SOME states ILLEGAL TO DRIVE?

I can go on and on with question like this.

Now my question is......................How come Administration of G35Driver.com thinks that recall headlight is ILLEGAL to have on the car and INFINITI does not?

Do you know something that INFINITI does not?


Being aware of all this information I'm confident to say that RECALL PROJECTOR HEADLIGHT are safe to have on the car. And perfectly legal to sell on car forums and E-bay.

And if the reason for "filanj" being banned for bringing this issue up I would ask you politely to restore him back into his place. If apologies are in order I think he should be given that chance.

Other vice I will make voodoo dolls of every Admin and Mod on this site and poke them with needles.................. Just kidding...................I'll just rip their head off.

Looks like you didn't do your research becasue the bulbs are EXACTLY the same. Everythin on the headlights are EXACTLY the same. The issue with the headlights was that they were sometime aimed incorrectly resulting in blinding other drivers, and Infiniti decided to replace all projectors instead of reaiming all of them. I know this because I've taken apart both prerecalled and postrecalled projectors and followed the complaints by members etc.





Wrong, they are potentially blinding to other drivers. This isn't the reason we don't allow the sale of projector headlights, it has to do with the illegal nature of obtaining them.

This is also incorrect, dumpster diving is absolutely ILLEGAL, go try and ruffle through your neighbor's garbage and tell them to call the police and see what they say. Just because the police can't enforce every law efficiently doesn't make it any less illegal. Also, most never made it to the dumpster, service techs and workers were taking them and selling them on Ebay etc. Infiniti has taken a clear stand on this, and will fine dealerships for every pair that are found to originate from that dealership. Any way you look at it, taking something that was not meant for resale and was supposed to be destroyed, and then selling it for profit is illegal, there is no argument against this. Since there is a corporate presence on this board, the owners of the site decided to not allow the sale of the illegal projectors, for the various reasons I listed above.

Finally, Filanj was not banned because of that thread, he was banned for being disrespectful to numerous members and an overall pain to deal with whining and wannabe moderating. Pissing off the Admins WILL get you banned.

 

Note that not all projector headlights are obtained via dumpster diving. Some Infiniti dealers have sold these headlights for whatever they can, because it's 100% profit for them. These dealers were instructed to drill holes into the headlights so that they cannot be used again. Dealers said to themselves, why not make a quick buck? So some dealers decided to sell the recalled headlights in mass numbers. Others decided to dump them without drilling into them.

Also have encountered with both headlight and bulbs are totally diff.

As a matter a fact I have both of them in my coupe and one of them is brighter then the other(the newer one)


On the INFINITI charging dealerships issue. I'm assuming that you have no proof of this besides what you found out from the dealership.

Well let me brake it down to you.

Infiniti is a big corporation and employs allllllllot of smart ppl. Much smarter then you and me (I hope). It is not wise to sped money on shipping defective product back to the factory and then pay for disposal. It is much wiser to have dealers get rid of it by drilling holes in them and throwing them out.

I have not found any documentation or articles about INFINITI being unhappy about so called "Defective" product being sold on E-bay by dealers or their employees.

As I have pointed out that this was VOLUNTARY recall. It is not Mandatory therefore it is not Illegal to have them on your car.

Therefore taking something that INFINITI does not want and selling it to those that do is also NOT ILLEGAL

In the thread that I posted above a strong point was made about this product being ILLEGAL to sell due to it being stoled form the dealership.

Now let me ask you this............If factory advised the dealership to get rid of the product but not DEMANDED it. Doesn't it gives them the right to do what they please with it?


The main point that the recall issue was of a very small importance. Infiniti handled it the way they thought was best. But the harm that those headlight did was the same as any of us can do driving with high beam on. We can turn it off just as easy as we can adjust the headlight and replace the bulbs our selves.


So considering the issue being so minor I think that you guy over blew it.

You cant control the product being sold here on this forum.
Half or even more of this stuff could be obtained Illegally at some stage.
Was G35driver.com informed by Infiniti to prevent any future sale of such product due to it's defaults or other issues?

Was there any letters threatening to take legal actions against the site and it's administrators in case this issue will not be handled?


Then why the verdict so harsh when both sides of the coin look just as good?

Post pics of your different bulbs, both are 85122+ bulbs, I know because I still have my old recalled bulbs as well as the new ones. No difference. They are made by phillips and the specs haven't changed.

Once again, post pics, I want one of the cutoff especially, that will show me the color/intensity difference. Its easy to spot. I'll bet if there is a difference, then its due to the age of the bulbs, and not any changes made in the bulbs themselves.

Bad assumption, representatives from Infiniti have already spoken to the owners on this subject.

Why would they make this documentation public? Its between corporate and the dealerships, and in this case, the owners of this forum.

No it does not, part of the stipulation with with providing the parts for the recall is that the defective headlights are destroyed or rendered unusable. Its like a contract, basically the dealerships are not holding up their end of the bargain. At no point do the headlights belong to the dealership. Its theft, plain and simple.


Umm no, not everyone can. Even after I posted a step by step DIY, people still had problems. The level of mechanical competance is quite low I'm afraid. Also, some of the projectors had rotation issues, which cannot be adjusted without taking apart the headlgiths and readjusting the shields within the projector. Not a DIY job by any means, and nowhere near as easy as you make it sound. I would bet less than 10% of this site could adjust their headlights correctly to meet dot specs.

The issue isn't minor IMO. Theft is not minor, and the issues with some of the headlights is not minor either. Making sure everything is set up correctly is at least a 2-3 hour job, and I've done it multiple times. The difference between these sales and the majority of the other sales on this forum is that while half of those other products my potentially be stolen, 99% of the projectors on the market were illegally obtained at some point. Therefore, enforcing a ban on all projectors is only affecting less than 1% of legitamate sales.

Yes, there was communications between the owners and corporate representatives regarding the subject as mentioned above. The admins/owners don't do things just for the heck of it, they have financial stake in this site that you don't, so you have no place questioning their motives.

 

Where does it state that they replaced them with new bulbs? They included new bulbs that were EXACTLY the same as the old ones. Phillips 85122+ bulbs. Would you like a picture of my old recalled bulbs and new post recalled bulbs next to each other? I can even do pictures with my extra projectors showing the exact same performance between the two.

cuz I'm stubborn and refuse to believe it.

I have red all the document addressed by INFINITI to their dealerships and Nissan corporation and did not find anything in them that would result is such seriousness.

Here is one document in which "Frank D. Slaveter" Senior Manager, Techical Compliance does notes that But in the same time in this letter

They say that it's some vehicles and some headlights and may be and might cause and on and on and on.

 

All I can say is that mine were replaced and they are diff and I got as much proof of it as you do.

 

Here's my proof.

Recalled bulb on the left, new post recalled bulb on the right. Notice they are EXACTLY the same, with the same model numbers.

You don't even have an 06, how did you have the recall done?

 

I had my headlight replaced (during the recall period) and I asked them why the bulb is diff. I was told that the old ones are too bright. They are not that bright in the reflectors but too bright in projectors and that is one of the reasons why they are being recalled.

 

I'm going to find out tomorrow if Infiniti has any way to track the headlights.

If they do then maybe we do have an issue here. But if they don't I believe we are done here!

 

So you are basing your entire argument on what the dealership told you? These are the same dealerships that tell me that my aftermarket shift **** can mess up my transmission. They have NO credibility. And they replaced your 05 reflectors with 06 projector headlights? When did this happen, all your pics show the old reflector headlights

 

Just because they can get away with it doesn't make it any less illegal or right.
