To be honest, I'm not surprised you were kidding and I'm glad you were. But at the same time, you seemed to be quote sincere with the rest of the post. So it's hard to know when you are being serious and when you're joking. So yes, a similie would be nice. Considering you've gone to great lengths before to make a point.

OKOKok.....

I think the original point was that we don't want a regional classified within the regional forums.
& that still stands, ....but stay tuned

FS threads: Pix & location

i have recently noticed that less and less threads have pictures when something is posted up for sale.. its only a few words of what's being sold and then the post a price up and have a zillion people asking for pictures and a location.. sure people should look at the location on the SN but not everyone has it.. and even then it could say SoCal but damn.. thats a large margin..

so it be nice if there was a new rule where if the Item being sold is not posted with pictures it should be deleted and stating the location of the item should be a new rule on the FS threads..

thanx..

^ I agree, we need to tighten it up.

One problem with rules, is getting new users to read them.
Also, it would be great if members would use the "report a post" icon ,
when they see something that doesn't follow the proper protocol in the classifieds.

Agreed on all points, my350z's marketplace is infinitely better because of their tight restrictions. Threads get closed if they don't meet all the criteria, and that's exactly the way it should be.

We are very close to the implementation of Marketplace changes.
Some of the changes will be similar to my350z, others will be new.

One thing that has already been implemented is;
a change to the qualification for being able to post a Classified Thread.

Members must now have:
1. 100 post minimum AND be a registered member for 45 days.
2. The $5 temporary classified registration option has been eliminated.
These have been implemented to tighten up security.

Other changes planned are a significant departure from the classifieds as they now exist.
I think we have some exiting new things to present to the members,
that will provide a LOT more functionality.

A new thread will be started in this section within the next few days to:
- intro the changes to the members
- & of equal importance, look for your feedback before implementation.

..stay tuned

Update....

Since the Marketplace changes are a 2 part discussion, (rules; forum design)
It makes sense to complete the rules discussion started in this thread,
with the forum design changes introduced in a separate thread.

…. so here are the proposed classified rule changes to date; (short form)
**************************************

A Classified Thread MUST be posted with the following information,
or it will be deleted without notification.

1. CONCISE ACCURATE TITLE: ....No threads permitted with fanciful titles such as “FS: ……check it out
2. PRICE: - unless WTT or WTB
3. LOCATION: (nearest significant city or area)
4. CONTACT: - method of contact &or info (no personal info)
5. CURRENT PIC: current pic of the item(s) for sale c/w hand written sign which includes ‘Username’ and ‘Date
6. DESCRIPTION: - it must be there; but content cannot be moderated for lack of information.

We realize that item #5 has been the most debated topic in this thread,
and that it may be an inconvenience to some.
The decision to proceed with it is pretty simple.
1. It has been working successfully on other sites.
2. The added benefit of reduced scamming outweighs any inconvenience.

..Other rules that will result in deletion of threads.
1. Surrogate threads, posted on behalf of friends that do not qualify to post in the classifieds.
2. FS of headlight Projectors – due to the uncertainty of bad recall units
3. Feeler threads – self explanatory

One thing we will include in the final draft of the changes is a link to a sample template.
.

Another option i've seen that reduces clutter is s2ki's member (paid subscription) only sales, they charge you 20$ a year to be able to post any classified and in certain sections of the site.

They also have regional for sale forums and moderators for busy regions, where the mods know pretty much who's a scammer and most of the site users from their said region. Also regional and for sale forums are locked unless logged in.

I like their system or option 2:

Zilvia.net their forum for sale rules are even stricter than G35drivers, for example wheel sales require Location, Brand, offset, with or w.o tires, and the regular price and contact info. And parts require generally type of chassis (s13, s14, s15) and brand. If any info is missing the moderator will delete the thread but also notify the user.

Also i dislike the item picture with user name, but i think it's fine as long as it's very clear only one picture requires the tag so that the user doesn't have to take 4-6 shots with their user name over and over.

can we get the price requirement in the vendor section too?

The "PM for price" followed by a dozen pages of "pm price to zip whatever" is really tiresome.

If I don't see a price listed in the OP I just move on.

It's called MAP pricing. Dealers must abide by a strict rule for MAP pricing and even quotations. If they do not follow the rule, there are many things that can happen to that dealer and the worst thing that can happen is that they can get cut off and not be able to offer those products to the public.

Dealers can list MSRP pricing...but what's the point? Unless you want to pay MSRP.

MAP and MSRP are 2 entirely different things.

There may be situations where MAP comes into effect but i think the majority of it is the old "price too low to show" marketing gimmick and all the pm requests are merely free bumps for the threads.

Anyway, you guys set the rules not me. Like I said I have my own rule. If I don't see a price I move on.
