You can in "for sale" threads.
But I don't think one should be able to close your own threads. Because you can be debating someone and when you are losing, you could just close it.
But you can always ask one of the mods to close a thread. They usually do whatever you ask of them (within reason)

Just checked again.. you can DELETE your thread.. but you can't close it.. we have access to DELETE.. i don't think we should have THAT access.. They should allow us to CLOSE threads rather than DELETE them...
we use to be able to do JUST that..

Any specific reason why you would want to have a FS thread closed in the Marketplace as opposed to deleting it? To me it makes more sense that when your item sells or if it's no longer available for whatever reason that thread should be deleted. Kinda like Kijiji. That way the Marketplace isn't cluttered with a bunch of closed threads. Perhaps I am missing something though.
only reason i would say keep it is if someone is screwing you over and then DELETE the thread, as opposed to just CLOSING it.
but if i recall...if such a thing were to happen, the mods can still see them, right?

whenever I sell or look to buy something I do a search.. not many people use that feature but I do.
what comes up.. or use to come up are old threads about what i'm looking for along with old and new for sale threads.
when i use to see an old for sale thread or even a new one for that matter, i got a feel of what they sell for, what sellers asking prices are, what it sold for, and how long it took to sell the item..
if the OP only option is to delete not to close.. no one ever knows or ever knew what happened to the part.. if it sold, got stolen, got thrown away, you know what i mean..?
i just liked to be able to look back.. a day, a week, a month or even years...
someone might think that they have a rare item because they;ve never seen the item for sale or whatever, but if 10 of the items sold the day before and the op's deleted the threads no one knows what's up..
AND...
people like youngthrowed254 or whatever his name was can't scam people left and right by hooking people with a fs thread, getting their info, screwing them, and then starting another thread only to do the same to another member..
jus sayin...
Having FS threads around for reference is definitely helpful IMO.
