stupid to put down deposit on 08 G35 Coupe?
So I have been on this forum reading for a whil,e and of course saw the concept pics. I have a 2003 350z track model and want this new 08 g35 when it comes out next summer. There is one dealership that is taking $1500 non refundable deposits, I originally was going to do that but thought why would i put money down for a car that doesnt have final pictures. Another dealership said that they will take $500 refundable deposits in 90 days. I think I will do that but what are you guys doing and whats your thoughts?
I remember when I was buying my car, they wanted a deposit as well. When I decided to buy from another dealer, I was informed that there's no such thing as a "non refundable deposit". All deposits are refundable and it's illegal to do otherwise.
By putting the deposit, you've locked yourself into paying MSRP (or greater). Unless you really want to be the first (second or third, depending on their bidding process) in your block to have the 'new G', then keep the $500, play it on the stock market and maybe when the G comes out, you'll have enough to PAY for it all in cash.
Bottomline: don't bother with deposit unless you want to be first to drive one.

$500 won't get you alot in interest and if you play the stock market with it, you'll need to make enough just to cover brokerage fees (I wouldn't trade less than $5000 in stock).
So $500 refundable that gets you MSRP (get it in writing) isn't a bad deal if you want it.

personally i want something different next time, something with true sport + gt capabilities. so im going for the GT-R.
if i had to spend under $50k, i would go for the 335i.
if you really want the new g coupe though, i would wait. i doubt the demand will be so high that you have to reserve one this early at over msrp or have to give a nonrefundable deposit.

Wonder what the MSPR will be? ... and also how many bugs will be in the new generation coupe.
