G37 Pics at the NY Show!
I'd pick 335i even though the interior is not better than the G37.
I'm really not feelin it. I'm disappointed when I saw the pic on Road & Track on that tiny box at the bottom at the page. That was my first impression and it sure haven't changed after seeing the photos and videos.
who knows maybe it'll grow on me but certainly the 335i looks more appealing in photos and stats on paper.

I'm buying a G37, and not because they have made it a "girly car" and have now entered my demographic. Where do you see a feminine car? To me, a girly car is a Mazda Miata, a Beetle, a Mini-Cooper or a Porsche Boxter. I was going to get a G35 until I found out they were re-designing it. If I could afford it, I would buy a Porsche 911 Carrera....maybe in about 10 years. Oh yeah, the reason I'm buying a G37 is b/c they shined a purple light on it....get real.

Lol, I don't know about you, but my wife is totally digging the purple light.

Thats a fair analysis, except for the final percentages : 50 -14=35%, so if they change their mind when they see it, we are right back to 50-50, not nearly a majority. But it could slip the other way as well, then it would be quite clearly stated as unliked by these 353 members, on a 48,639 member Blog. (0.00726%)
For 1 I think most people who read do not comment, so there are a lot of readers out there we dont always hear from. I am surprised how many people have listed old dates in their profile for joining and then you see 12 posts, so I would guess there is a large silent number- like or dislike, that have yet to weigh in on this discussion for 1 reason or another.
I am glad you love it so much, I almost became an owner back at the time of initial launch, but was out of work after 9-11 for several years and had a black hole spring up where my bank account once was.
The fact that they made a car that has such a following to build a Blog almost around 1 vehicle says it all, you G owners really like what they made back then. My biggest arguement in these threads is it is still a great all around package, and some, not yours, posts here are just all whining 'its sooo different i have to leave now and buy a bimmer'. That tude really does not make sense to me, if you love the new 335i so much, that is 1 thing, but to say the G37 is 100% not the car the G35 was????
It takes quite a skewed pair of eye glases to not see how much they do look alike and that Infiniti was walking the line between old and new, and did a good job.
Sales figures will tell all, for their sake I hope they sell well, but I am willing to say a year from now if it even does not sell as well as the G35 that they did not get it right, only time will tell........

A "Silent Watchers" Perspective
Hi Folks,
I'm a "silent watcher" and as a first post I wanted to complement the "enthusiasts" on this board for building some stunning G-cars and demonstrating the performance and looks that can be extracted from a late model G.
I'm an owner of a loaded '05 G sedan. I purchased the car first as a performance replacement for a retired 328i sport, secondly as an occasional "taxi" for out of town visitors, thirdly as a comfortable commute for distant 18-hole road trips and lastly as a 'graying' impressionable road statement. I am completely satisfied with the performance and ride of the '05 sedan but have always been somewhat dissapointed with the "parking lot" looks of the car, (primarily from a direct rear and front angle), and have always admired the looks of a late model G-coupe with the aero and performance package.
My interest in the '08 coupe has been building since an impressionable encounter with a 'built' late model coupe last year. I have been tracking all of the threads on this site since early January and also have my own impressions of the NYIAS release of the '08 coupe. My perspectives after having reviewed most of the pictures, chops, and comments on this board over the past couple of weeks include:
a. The new coupe looks stunning from the side, fairly similar to the existing coupe from the rear, and consistent with the new and old sedan from the front.
b. The primary difference between the NYIAS coupe and the concept model seems to be the amount of fender flare in the rear and front fenders and the signature G sedan contoured front end on the released model. BTW, I'm not a big fan of the NYIAS model front end primarily because it makes the car look smaller from a direct view on the road. (my recommendation would be to raise the hood closer to the level of the front fenders and decrease the size of Infiniti's trademark 'smiley face' grill)
c. Infiniti marketing seems to have missed out on the fact that both the Audi's and BMW's get much of their aggressive looks from putting wide and low profile tires on their 'sport' models. (acknowledging that these tires don't help gas mileage or performance; but they do look great from a front or rear road profile)
d. I am a reluctant member of Infiniti's 'targeted market' group; mid-40's, a reasonable credit record, single, still young enough to kick the s--- out of many of the kids on a moto-cross track but old enough that I don't have to prove it anymore, and desiring a good looking car with enough performance to blow by 98% of the cars on the road (including BMW's) but comfortable enough for long road trips and with enough room in the trunk for two sets of golf clubs. (a serious limitation of the existing coupe but a major attraction of the late model sedan)
So where am I going with this? First I'd have to agree with many of the recent posters that the '08 G coupe front-end is disappointing, the rear-end looks very similar to the existing coupe (and with that big a-- rear end you'd think it would hold more than one golf bag), the side view is impressive, and the motor, handling improvements, interior upgrades and price might be enough to justify a purchase in spite of the exterior design and luggage limitations.
And, lastly, I'll add that if I were to buy a coupe it would be with an intention of adding performance and cosmetic improvements as a differentiator and I hope that Infiniti hasn't designed themselves out of the 'enthusiast' space with this new model. (how many of you have ever seen a Lexus SC430 coupe 'tricked out'; or more importantly, how many of you even give a second glance to a Lexus SC430 sport coupe on the road?)
I'll go back to my G-sedan hibernation now . . .

It doesn't ride high, the lines make it look like it does though, so I guess for you ricer freaks that is bad too. I personally like higher riding cars. Low-riders are so 1970s, and unless done just right offer no performance advantage, and for me performance is king. How it "rides" is about the least important aspect of a car. But to each his own I guess.

Nice post- you should post more often!

My first post and I must say you all are unbelievably passionate and that's why I have decided to enter this Infiniti Fray of yours. I have owned lots of fast cars from the muscle era (I'm 52) right on through modern day and that included plenty of foreign as well as american specimens. The demographic may be changing in this new Coupe model, but I have always felt 20 years younger than I am so maybe not!
Yesterday afternoon I walked into the Infiniti dealer and put my deposit down and as it stands I'm no.2 on the list and will be looking for the first Black Obsidian Sport A/T with premium. If the first one I can acquire has NAVI also, I will buy that one. I will have to wait and see what's coming in.
I'll share as much as I hear along the way for the next few months and will try to provide my impression of the ride once it gets here. For now, I won't weigh-in on the current discussions of the G35 and/or the concept car that has led to this. I must say though that I would not be buying this new Coupe unless it stirred my blood. It has, and someday I hope to be as passionate about it as all of you.
