Hey guys, I am planning on buying the new g37, but my dilemma is auto or stick. I would like to hear your choices and why? My first car choice, was the 335i with step because i heard the computer can shift faster than the normal average human can do. But that all changed when i started looking into the new g37 and fell in luv with it. I'm always checking out this forum like i'm on crack. Lol. Anyways, like i said whats your choice and why? By the way i do live in Los Angeles where traffic's a bizatch. Oh the dilemma....

Depends on where you live i guess.. the obvious choice would be heavy traffic= AT, little/none traffic= MT.. then of course if you dont mind constantly shifting.. definetly go for the MT
As for performance wise.. they shouldnt differ too much, but when you start doin engine mods, it's so much cooler have a stick haha..
I personally have an AT.. couldnt wait the 3 months for the MT.. i have regrets at times but a g's a g..

This thread happens on every car forum. Research yourself what your preference is.
I will go with the M/T because it has less drivetrain power loss, you control launches better, you control your gear better, and it is 6 gears instead of the auto's 5.

i drove an is350 with the paddle shifters.. i thought it was cool.. a novelty for me. i agree with others.. like the looks of the car.. transmission is all you. you have to live with the decision. I chose 6mt mainly because that's all i've ever had and for some reason... not based on anything concrete.. a sports car (or sports coupe) just doesnt seem right as an auto... paddle shifters or not.. i want to run through the gears with a stick. I realize sports cars costing way more than the G use paddles. Doesnt matter.. it's all how it makes me feel when i shift those gears. go check a 2007 g35 sedan.. or is350.. see how it makes you feel..

For me, I think that Formula 1 cars are the ultimate racing cars. Which means paddle shifters are the way to go (if they work good). I see ultra exotic vehicles every single day at work and there's just something sexy about paddles. I had an IS300 AT and used the buttons exclusively. Now I've got an 04 G35 AT and drive only in the manual mode. I had a ride the other day in a 360 Modena and I've got to say that using paddles takes nothing away from 0-80 in just a couple hundred yards. Paddles for me on my new G!
Paddle shifters in F1 arent quite the same. They are much more similar to the M3 SMG system, which is a manual transmission with a hydraulically controlled clutch replacement( no clutch pedal and no torque converter). Much different than the paddle shifters in most cars under 75k.... The paddle shifters in the Infiniti (and most others) are just a cooler way of telling the automatic transmission when to shift gears.
I've driven a couple of the SMG equipped M3's and in the most agressive shift mode, it will just about snap your neck. I think it changes gears in .05 seconds.

It is my biggest decision also. I will have to drive both. If there is drive line harshness with the 6MT, then I will probably go with the auto/paddle shifters. The auto gets good reviews and rev matches on the down shift.
