Edmunds.com - Stick shifts and metal trim = not good
And another.. (tho this was written for 07 G35 Sport, same pretty much applies)

It's hard to complain about warm weather on a weekend, but I'll give it a shot. Got in the G35 after it was sitting in the sun for most of the day and I was instantly reminded why most stick shifts aren't trimmed in metal. Yes, it was hot. Not quite leave a mark hot, but hot enough to make me throw it into third and hope for no stoplights. Obviously the designers knew this might happen, but they went ahead and added the trim anyway. I’m all for adding a little flash to the interior, but this is one instance where it might have been a good thing if the bean counters had come out on top.

The more I read Edmunds, the more I realize they are BMW badge wh*res. The BMW 335 also has metal trim on the shifter (unless it's plastic)? Can't believe they didn't mention it in any 335 blog.
The G37 will never get a fair shake there.
Unless, of course, these guys can separate their "blogs" from their real reviews.

I agree with OP. What idiot decided it was smart to put metal on the shift ****. As for the seatbelt it's easier to still use the seat belt and bring it down using the plastic piece as opposed to using a shift **** with a big metal piece right smack dab on top. If you can't figure out the design flaw there then I won't draw it out for you "ding-dong".

Let's not bash edmunds yet. They have already stated the G37 kicks the 335i butt on the track.
We are now waiting for a full road test and comparison test of the G37.
But I will be reading between the lines carefully.
Off the thread but interesting.
Buy the way, my friends 4year old 525i (no trouble for 4 years) is off warranty and maintenance.
Warranty was quoted to him at 1000 bucks a year. (two years)
And maintenance was quoted at 1,500 bucks a year.
Oh by the way he needs rear brakes. 2,500 bucks
Interesting.
